Kamanga refuses to recommend Kalu for FIFA nomination
In a football scandal that is set to shock the football fraternity and nation as a whole, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has turned his back on his countryman and fellow Zambian Kalusha Bwalya.
Kamanga has refused to allow the Great Kalu to be given a letter of recommendation to contest a FIFA Council position next year.
It is a requirement of CAF and FIFA that persons seeking elective CAF and FIFA office present a letter of recommendation from their country’s football associations.
Kalusha has garnered support from across Africa to run for FIFA office next year but Kamanga’s refusal to issue him with a letter on FAZ letterhead is standing in the way.
Even after being reminded that the majority of the Executive Committee would like FAZ to issue a letter of support for Kalusha, Kamanga is dragging his feet and has instead decided to ignore his countryman in preference for another candidate from Cosafa believed to be Suketu Patel of Mauritius or Danny Jordaan of South Africa.
In response to concerns of members of the FAZ executive committee who queried Kamanga as to why Kalusha was not being given the letter of support, Kamanga in an email to the executive members on 26 October 2016 wrote:
“COSAFA has 14 serving presidents and one has been floated to stand in FIFA. Are you suggesting that Zambia should disregard this position on account of serving an individual (Kalusha)? Football in Zambia does not belong to one individual, and don’t forget that Kalusha is no longer President of FAZ and this is a consequence of losing the last election.”
“As FAZ president I will be failing in my duty to guide ExCo on this matter, and it will be irresponsible on our part to ignore the position of COSAFA. Kindly confirm that Zambia should pull out of COSAFA with immediate effect to serve the interest of an individual,” he said.
The FAZ executive committee is not bound by any rules or bodies on election matters and can issue Kalusha the letter.
In one of the other emails, some members of the executive committee reminded Kamanga that five of them were in support of a letter being given to Kalusha but Kamanga had been using the name of Cosafa to defend his refusal alleging that he was bound by a Cosafa decision to deny Kalusha a nomination letter.
Kamanga’s position has ignited anger among executive members some of who are not hiding their plans to remove him from office.
It is also set to ignite fierce debate and condemnation of his leadership. One soccer commentator Patrick Phiri spoken to by the ZamFoot crew cried about the position taken by Kamanga.
“This is scandalous to say the least. This is Zambia we are talking about and a former FAZ president intending to raise our profile and contribute to development. If the majority of the executive committee says yes to the giving of Kalusha a nomination letter, what is Kamanga’s aim of standing in the way? Why should we support outsiders and not fellow Zambians first? Why should Cosafa stand in the way? As Zambians we must learn to support one another especially on the international front.
“I think this should attract the attention of the minister of sports and even the patron of FAZ President Edgar Lungu who must step in. It’s too much of bad news coming out of FAZ. I mean look at the performance and results of the national team since Kamanga took over in March. We have not won any competitive matches and like fans are saying Chipolopolo is dropping all the time and then there was the age cheating under his watch,” he said.
Other things Phiri mentioned were failure to qualify to the AFCON and junior Africa Cup, the homosexual clause sneaked into a draft of the FAZ constitution and his plans to reduce teams to provinces, strip them of voting rights in the name of FIFA regulations and dismantle division one and leave only a few teams…our football is a cross-roads and action must be taken by the executive committee members failure to which the FAZ council must do.
Kalusha is a member of the CAF executive committee and is bidding to become the first Zambian to serve on the FIFA Council/Zamfoot.
Do unto others what you would want them to do unto you. Kalusha blocked Moses Sichone and Clifford Mulenga just to mention a few from playing in the national team. He vowed that they will never play in the national team until he is no longer FAZ president. He forgot that Life is like a wheel. Today you are up and tomorrow you are down. He showered Kamanga with insults. Am not supporting Kamanga but Kalusha should be told to be humble and respect other people. In life, all of us will need a favour from someone one day.Kamanga give him the recommendation letter so that your hands can be free.
zanaco will never go far in caf champions league as long as baku Midlands bola yaba Ku Kopala
Kalu and Kamanga must reconcile.
Bloggers have short memories; Isnt this the same Kalu who blocked Mulonga in his bid for position on Cosafa executive? Let Kalu taste his own bitter medicine! He must learn that what goes around comes around. In any case corrupt individuals r not welcome in FIFA. This guy has to clear his name on Nike and ticketing issues. Lets not condone wrong doing. Depending on how this go, this chap may not b welcome in the Fifa executive!
I don’t trust Zanaco in the champions league they r always a let down. Give them mbabane swallows and u’ll see.
This Zanaco team is a digrace in champions league. Am not Happy they have won the league. They are a let down. The league was suposed to remain in the copperbelt.
Having read the article carefully,my question is,if you were A.K.will you sign or not? Because he is saying they had a meeting with the entire COSAFA to choose and support only one candidate so that that candidate can have more chances of winning. Please let us educate one another here.
Sounds like payback to me.
Pungwa. That sounds like an amazing case of pettiness by Kamanga. If the executive committee is in support surely FAZ does not belong to Kamanga either, so he should be willing to make this happen. This is extremely sad and just makes me think less of Kamanga than I did before.
The plot thickens !
Zambia Police Director of Sports, Adrian Kashala, Sues Kazala’s Paid Agent
Peter Adamu | November 1, 2016
legal hammer has fallen on Kabwe United Football Club official and Kalusha Bwalya trumpeter Maxmillian Chanda for allegedly making defamatory statements against a litany of sports administrators.
Chanda has been sued by Director of Sports in the Police Adrian Kashala and football administrator Gift Chaipa.
According to the writ of summons filed in the Lusaka High Court by Kashala and Chaipa, the duo is asking the court to restrain Chanda from continuing with issuing defamatory statements.
The duo has also jointly sued publications that were the conduit of the story which the Times of Zambia and its Ndola based reporter Ndinawe Simpelwe, Daily Mail and reporter Robinson Kunda with The Post and reporter Prudence Phiri.
Chanda in articles published in the three publications alleged that the duo were camped at Savoy Hotel at FAZ expense during the weekend of the Football Association of Zambia Annual General Meeting in March that ousted Kalusha Bwalya as president.
Ironically it was Bwalya who was still in charge of FAZ during the FAZ AGM.
Chanda also alleged that newly elected FAZ president Andrew Kamanga gave match tickets to Kashala and Chaipa using his authority.
Notably then newly elected vice president Richard Kazala was the one in charge of the March Organizing Committee.
The duo is asking for damages for libel as a result of Chanda’s sustained sentiments.
Chanda is a covet operation by Kazala to topple Kamanga. He has been unleashed as the lead assailant in the bring back Bwalya campaign which is spearheaded by remnants of Bwalya’s executive committee members current serving FAZ.
@positive thinking, story doing the rounds is that Kalu actually sent that request through Kazala and not directly to the secretariat. Kazala then wrote to Kamanga asking for the approval on Kalu’s behalf. Questions then arise, why not deal with Kamanga direct, he might feel his hand is being twisted ? I have no problem with Kamanga signing that recommendation but one thing we can not ignore is that there have been schemes to hound out Kamanga by crook or hook, which I cant subscribe to. I say Kamanga should immediately invite auditors to faz so that accounts for 2015 and before are forensically audited with a microscope. Those found wanting should be vigorously prosecuted – The gloves are off !!
