Zambia U16 skipper Aaron Mbemba Phiri and striker Luketekelo Joram Kapowa have been named UEFA Under-16 International Development Player of the Tournament and Top Scorer of the Tournament respectively.
Mbemba fought off stiff competition from an all-Zambian shortlist comprising striker Emmanuel Mwanza and midfielder Emmanuel Mutale to win the award, while Kapowa got the Top Scorer’s accolade after scoring two goals in two matches.
Both players started in the first game against Georgia before combining well in the 3-1 win over Azerbaijan at the GF Football Academy in Rustavi, Georgia.
Zambia finished second behind eventual winners Georgia after amassing four points, a point behind the hosts.
In wrapping up their Georgia outing, the team were 1-0 victors of a friendly against FC Lokomotiv Tbilissi U17 courtesy of a Kapowa first half strike.
The team is expected back in the country this afternoon.
