Zambia v Guinea Bissau – How will Chicken’s boys line-up?

The Zambia national team this afternoon kickoff their campaign in the race for a spot at the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The team had their final training session yesterday in Kitwe while the visitors arrived in Ndola about 17:00hrs and went straight to the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium where they loosened up and had their first feel of the stadium turf in a training session that started at 18:30hrs.

With a new coach in the Chipolopolo driving seat appointed this week on Monday, curiosity has gripped the Chipolopolo fans as to how ‘Chicken’ George Lwandamina will line-up the lads.

Lwandamina is spoilt for choice in almost every department but one thing that is clear is that he will deploy a 4 4 2 formation going by some of the training sessions observed by the ZamFoot Crew.

In goal, Danny Munyao and Kennedy Mweene will battle for a place with veteran Mweene who was being primed for this day since the Cosafa tournament a likely starter.

The right back has three players contending for the position; Kabaso Chongo, Donashano Malama, Davies Nkausu while Fackson Kampumbu will bring competition to Emmanuel Mbola on the left.

With Stoppilla Sunzu injured, Chicken is likely to go with Aaron Katebe and Chris Munthali as the two centre backs. The two stood strong during the Cosafa but either Nkausu or Kondwani could easily slot in to partner Munthali. Kapota Kayawe has an outside chance of starting.

In midfield, Nathan Sinkala looks a sure starter in the holding role but don’t be surprised if young Paul Katema is picked over him after he showed what a work-horse he is during the preparations leading up to this game.

Chisamba Lungu, Mukuka Mulenga and Rainford Kalaba will contend for a place in the middle of the pack, though Chisamba showed how costly his playing with the ball in deep areas can be to the team when the Chipolopolo beat Ndola United 3 – 2 on Wednesday.

In the wide areas, Allan Mukuka, Fwayo Tembo, Lubambo Musonda are all available for selection and anyone of them can do a lot of damage on their day. However the three will know that captain Kalaba may be preferred on the left were he spent most of his time during training.

The strikers are what may be posing the biggest challenge for the technical bench. Given Singuluma, Bornwell Mwape, Patson Daka, Emmanuel Mayuka and Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba have scored a combined total of about three goals at their clubs this calendar year. But these Zambian sons will have to come to the fore today to give Zambia an avalanche of goals against the West Africans.

Have your say; How will the Chipolopolo line-up today?

  3. The midfield for Zambia looks very strong. George is spoilt for selection in that area. The worry is upfront. But I Sate Sate and Mayuka starting ahead of Mwape and Daka.
Otherwise I can’t speculate on the rest of the squad. But Zambia will carry the day by whatever margin.

  4. Hahahahaha 3 goals sure?? Hahahaha please you shouldn’t have written that because it’s very embarrassing! Our defence is very weak I don’t even know you I would pick in my starting 11 they are all walking disasters but in midfield I would go for Kalaba..Sinkala..Chisamba..Mukuka Mulenga and upfront Mayuka..Fwayo

  9. Zambians already getting excited. remember this team is dominated by average players that easily break down wen in alot of pressure

    • @ Paradox: So what is your suggestion as to the composition of the team? Only criticizing ? Ideas needed. If they break up under pressure, how should they be prep up? Ideas, not only seeing in the negative, brother,

  10. The team selected by George is pathetic! I am shocked this patson daka is being selected. Mtonga and sinkala in midfield non creative players lwandimina is hopeless.

  11. I do not know what to make up of our team, over using Kalaba.Honetry, felling to break bunch of lads who feature for C,D sides of European teams.

  12. This coach is even worse than Janza. He is very dull and has no foresight. How can you start patson daka? Why leave out fwayo and chisamba two players in form. This coach is dull!

  13. The guinea coach LL OUTTHINK THE LOCAL BLACK COACH OF ZAMBIA TACTICALLY!!
