Egypt and Zamalek star Mahmoud Abdul-Razek, better known as Shikabala was nicknamed after former Zambia striker Webster Chikabala by Egyptian fans.
Shikabala has been one of the stars of the Egyptian league and was part of the Pharoah’s 2010 AFCON winning squad as well as the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Former Chambishi and Nchanga Rangers striker Chikabala’s impact on the continent at the Algeria 1990 African Cup of Nations was so huge that the ver demanding Zamalek fans nicknamed their own after the Chambishi born player.
Chikabala is widely regarded as one of the greatest Zambian players of all time, and one of the best strikers of his generation.
Chikabala only made sole substitute role at the 1988 Seoul Olympics in the 4-0 win over Italy but took the 1990 African Cup of Nations by storm as he lead the line for Zambia.
He scored 2 goals for Zambia and was named in the CAF Team of the Tournament alongside compatriot Samuel Chomba, Nigeria’s Rashid Yekini, and Rabar Madjer of Algeria.
At the height of his career, he played for Maritimo in Portugal and had a spell in Belgium.
He also played at the 1992 African Cup of Nations in Senegal.
Chikabala died in Zimbabwe in 1997 were he was coaching and his body was brought to Zambia and lay in state at Chambishi Stadium on the Copperbelt.
