ZESCO United head coach Mathews Ndhlovu says his side is determined to end their CAF Confederation Cup campaign on a positive note despite their early exit from the competition.
The Ndola-based outfit will host Egyptian giants Zamalek SC on Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium as they continue their Group D fixtures in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
ZESCO United currently sit bottom of the group and are yet to register a point after four matches. However, speaking during the pre-match press conference, Ndhlovu insisted that the team remains focused and motivated heading into the encounter.
“We are taking the Zamalek game with the seriousness it deserves,” Ndhlovu said.
“We are out of the competition based on our position on the table, but we have challenged ourselves to finish on a high note. The remaining two games are very important for us, especially in terms of building confidence.”
The Zambian side has endured a difficult group-stage campaign and suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Zamalek in the reverse fixture played at Cairo International Stadium earlier in the competition.
Team captain Lindo Mkhonta echoed the coach’s sentiments, emphasising the players’ commitment to ending the campaign with pride and professionalism.
“As players, we are ready for tomorrow’s game,” Mkhonta said.
“We know we are already out of the competition, but we are approaching the match with our heads held high. We will fight, knowing there is still a chance to collect six points from the remaining games.”
ZESCO United will be aiming to put in a strong performance in front of their home supporters as they seek their first points of the group stage.
