CAF Champions League representatives Green Eagles coach Aggrey Chiyangi says his team is focused on beating their Angolan counterparts in the first leg of the pre-group encounter to be played in Lusaka this afternoon.
In a pre-match conference, Aggrey Chiyangi said he expected a tough match in the return leg in Angola but he will ensure his team gets the goals in this afternoon’s match to carry an advantage ahead of the second leg.
“If it was possible I would have told we are going to score a hundred goals, but you see this is football. We are planning to win and our focus will be to win but we have to understand that the other team also they want to win,” Chiyangi said.
Chiyangi has urged his players to work hard in today’s match against Primeiro de Agosto this afternoon. He added that it was not going to be easy to against Agosto.
“The only thing that we are going to do is to make sure that our players work very hard so that the chances that we are going to create, we have to make sure that we score. We have to make sure that if we can score three goals here, it will be a very big advantage to us, but for us to do that it requires a lot of hard work. We are focused on winning the games here because we know it will be very difficult when we go to Angola,” Chiyangi said.
The 2019 Super League Coach of the Year further said is said will play a cautious game against Agosto and dispelled the notion that his side plays defensive football.
“Football is played in two phases, defending and attacking. At a higher level when we talk of defending, there is what we call defending with the ball, but you have to understand that you only defend when you lose the ball and when you have the ball you have to attack.”
“So whether you say defensive it doesn’t mean we will defend ninety minutes, we will defend when we lose the ball and we will attack when we have the ball,” he concluded.
Chiyangi said that the loss against Zanaco last Sunday was behind and that the team had learned from the mistakes have shifted their attention to the match against Agosto this afternoon.
Green Eagles shocked the African continental when the squarely beat Orlando Pirates and Chiyangi said his team will approach the match like a cup final. He said this was the last hurdle between Group stages and CAF Confederation.
He said he will not dwell on the last two results from the CAF Champions League and the two league games and will approach today’s match with a different system as it will present different situation compared to the past matches.
“Whatever we are doing is not coming to us like a dream, we sat down with the players and everyone at the club, we said our focus should be to qualify to the group stage. So far the team has done well, the players have worked, we eliminated Orlando, we are facing Agosto
Green Eagles will play Primeiro de Agosto in the CAF Champions League pre-group encounter at the Heroes Stadium. The match will kick off at 15:00Hrs.
