Sate Sate beefs up U23 squad

EGYPT-based forward Ronald Kampamba yesterday joined the under-23 national team ahead of tomorrow’s CAF Under-23 Championship second round return leg against Botswana.

Coach Fighton Simukonda said in Lusaka that Kampamba’s arrival has boosted morale in camp.

Kampamba, who turns up for Wadi Degla, missed last Friday’s first leg, ended, 1-1 draw in Gaborone.

“Yes, Ronald has just joined us [team]. Coach Tenant [Chilumba] went to pick him from the airport [Kenneth Kaunda International Airport]. He is looking good. I know he is an experienced player who will add value to the squad,” Simukonda said.

The top three teams at the tournament in Senegal will qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games finals.

Meanwhile, Botswana delegation leader Thapelo Otimile said pressure is on Zambia.

“We are here to win but it will be a tough game. We don’t have any pressure because it is the host team that will be fighting hard to deliver. We will just go and play our normal game. Come Sunday we will beat Zambia,” he said.
Otimile said the Tswanas have an advantage over Zambia because a high scoring draw could see them through to the next round.

The Tswanas arrived in Lusaka on Thursday afternoon and trained at Sunset Stadium yesterday morning.
