Here are 10 picks from last weekend’s super league games after week 24 games:
1. Zesco maintained a comfortable 6 point lead on top of the log with a game in hand
2. Mighty Mufulira Wanderers joined Zesco United, Zanaco, Power Dynamos and Green Buffaloes as teams who have secured super league status for next season with six matches to spare. Mighty had to come from behind to beat Lusaka Dynamos. Only two teams will be relegated going into next season.
3. All teams 7th and below failed to win their matches
4. Only Power Dynamos failed to register a win for teams in the top 6
5. After picking a draw against Red Arrows, Forest Rangers recorded only their second point in the second half of the season. They have lost seven games and their other draw was against Nchanga Rangers on 19th July, 2015.
6. When Winstone Kalengo scored his 13th goal of the season, it was his 100th league goal and he stands to be the highest scorers in the past decade having made his league debut in 2003.
7. Out of the 13 goals scores by the current top scorer Kalengo, 9 have been at home
8. Konkola Blades have not lost a game in the league in which their top scorer Happy Kaunda has scored. He has now scored in both draws for Blades in Kitwe against Nkana and Power.
9. Jimmy Ndhlovu has continued his severe goal drought that has seen him not score a goal in the second half of the season since ending his loan spell at Power Dynamos. He was the top scorer at the end of the first half edging Winstone Kalengo who was tied with him on 8 goals on the ratio of games played v goals scored.
10. Moses Phiri’s goal was the 374th goal of the 2015 league season and his fifth of the campaign. He celebrated it in style by picking the phone from a technical team member and taking a selfie with his team-mates.

They should be more goals in the zambian league. 41 in 23 games is below average it should be 50-60 by now. Just saying
@syd2yall the 41 goals you are mentioning are goals scored by Zesco alone, ‘Moses Phiri’s goal was the 374th goal of the 2015 league season’ going by this statement, the goals scored in 23 matches are 374. The goals are coming but it appears the problem is that we do not have a single top striker who scores more goals alone. Goals are coming from all angles.
Way to go Kalengoal way to go! kip on scoring, it wil boost your confidence in scoring fr th national team as wel.
Kalengo seems to b enjoying his football! A late bloomer, I suppose, who was shy in front of goal…how old is he?!
Title is misleading. Sounds like “Mighty” have been playing in division one and have just secured promotion.
Great analysis by Zamfoot.
great summary Zamfoot.
Cool facts.well done Kalengo!Zambian league will get better with time, looking at the recent developments including extension of supersport deal and Faz restructuring the league process.Provided more corporates come on board, maybe we could have another cup competition.
on the flip side…something to look at apart from zambian soccer…Steven Gerard….racist?
” El-Hadji Diouf took a different tone, emphasis mine. “We all saw how he made life difficult for Mario Balotelli at Liverpool,” said Diouf. “I warned him. Liverpool isn’t a team that accepts black people unless they are English. It’s common knowledge. Gerrard has never liked black people. When I was at Liverpool, I showed him I was black, that I wasn’t English, but that I’m no pushover. All the time I was there, he never dared looked me in the eye.”
To some extent I agree, there was a time last year when Gerrard gave a pathetic attitude towards his team mate Mamadou Sakho (black guy). It was not noticed by many and not reported. But to me that was serious, and I thought to myself if Sakho was black, would Gerrard behave like that? To be honest most european players are racists including those in the EPL. They many not just show it.
So true…ive also just noticed how the number of black players in the liverpool team has gone up after SG left…
Winstone Kalengo reminds me of one Frazier Kamwandi…late bloomer on the international scene but with a reasonable impact….
Frazer ‘cantona’ Kamwandi
There is a calmness and a certain level of composure that is re-assuring in Kalengo’s game. I like the new found desire to win from this guy. I have never doubted his work ethic, his power on the ball and pace. What has impressed me about him in the recent past is the “MENATLITY” to fight and win. He is also taking responsibility for the team; mark of maturity right there
So true
Top scorer has 13 goals in 23 games. Very Poor, Thats what midfielders used to get back then
Great for Mighty to seal it early. If you ask me i thought they would be relegated, that legendary club.
On Kalengo the guy is one class act. He has been good and consistent for a while, perhaps just overshadowed by the likes of Singuluma. Patient guy he kept doing what he knows best and has improved on his stock.
let me share something different here…….Herve Renhard at Lille this far. He has played against some top clubs already and check his results. he can certainly grind the results out and doesnt concede goals. looks like the next big coach in world football. Watch this space!

Somebody help me,how old is Kalengo?
apo pena….watever his age its plus or minus 4…just saying
29-30 yrs old.
Thanks..If so,then he is a late bloomer.
Same as mbesuma if u ask me. In football terms 33 but in reality terms 38,39 or 40 sumwr thr.
Ba Zamfoot if i may suggest u shud b doing profiles on local players esspecially age, club debut, caps and goals etc. On google Kalengo was born in 1985 in Lstone played 4 Zanaco btwn 2004-2011 but it says currently plays 4 a south african club Zesco FC lol.
@gb Not insults please.
great
An old broom knows all the corners in the house, so it sweeps well. Anyway there those that are pathetic.lol
