Zambia Under-23 striker Eliya Mandanji says the players in camp are ready to fight for their places as preparations intensify for the 2027 Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Mandanji was on target as the Junior Chipolopolo edged Kafue Celtics 4-3 in a practice match at Nkoloma Stadium on Wednesday.
The striker says the competition for places is bringing out the best in the players as they look to secure a place in the final squad.
“The competition is there and everyone is ready to fight for the badge. Our objective is to work hard and make the final squad,” Mandanji said.
Mandanji believes the presence of players with senior international experience is also providing motivation for the younger members of the squad to make the most of their opportunity.
The Junior Chipolopolo are continuing to assess players ahead of the qualifiers, with coach Chisi Mbewe expected to name his final squad after the ongoing camp.
Zambia will face the winner of the tie between Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso in the second round of the U23 AFCON qualifiers, with the two legs scheduled for 9 and 17 November.
The qualifiers also form part of Zambia’s route towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
