League round-up: Power win to reclaim 2nd spot

Power Dynamos reclaimed second place in the MTN FAZ Super League with a 1 – 0 victory over Napsa Stars on Sunday to leapfrog Zanaco and close the gap on Zesco United to one point.

Kobe Chipeta scored the only goal of the match five minutes after the break for the Ndeke-based outfit to close the gap on first placed Zesco United who had their match abandoned on Saturday.

The victory meant that Power Dynamos who had slipped into third place on Saturday regained their position with 39 points, one better than Zanaco in third.

Elsewhere on Saturday, a goal each from Fackson Kapumbu and Mathews Macha helped Zanaco to a 2 – 0 victory over city rivals Lusaka Dynamos.

And at Nkana Stadium, new recruits Fred Tshimenga, Walter Bwalya and Diego Apanane who all arrived from Forest Rangers during the mid-season break registered their names on score sheet for Nkana in their 3 – 1 win over National Assembly. Tshite Mweshi scored the consolation goal for the visitors.

Nchanga Rangers returned to winning ways with a narrow 1 – 0 victory over Konkola Blades in Chingola thanks to Emmanuel Banda’s 4th minute goal.

In the Southern Province derby it was visiting Green Eagles who came out tops with a 1 – 0 victory thanks to Misheck Phiri’s goal in the 36th minute.

At Woodlands Stadium Friday Samu’s 47th minute goal was enough to give Green Buffaloes maximum points as they defeated Forest Rangers to move level on 29 points with Mufulira Wanderers who have a better goal difference and a Football Association of Zambia decision to contend with.

At Nkoloma Stadium Red Arrows and Nkwazi played out a goalless draw.

The match between Mufulira Wanderers and Zesco United was abandoned in the first half following crowd trouble at Shinde Stadium.
