South Africa, Zambia and debutants Malawi have all qualified for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026 as a trio of COSAFA sides make their way to the continental finals next year.
South Africa edged DR Congo 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-0 success in the home leg on Tuesday, with Thembi Kgatlana providing a ate winner in a deserved victory for Banyana Banyana.
Faith Chinzimu scored twice as Malawi defeated Angola 2-0 in Lilongwe to take their tie by the same scoreline and qualify for the continental finals for the first time.
Zambia completed a 3-0 win over Namibia on Sunday thanks to goals from Rachael Kundananji, Eneless Phiri and Prisca Chilufya. They took the tie 7-2 on aggregate.
South Africa will make a 14th appearance at the finals and were continental champions in 2022, while Zambia appear for the fifth time.
CAF is expected to expand the finals field for the 2026 tournament to 16 teams, with 12 having already booked their place.
How the other four will be determined is not yet known, but that could open the door for other COSAFA teams.
The four semifinalists at the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON Morocco 2026 will qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
