Copper Queens intensify preps for Angola showdown

The Zambia Women’s National Team has intensified preparations for Wednesday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) second round, first leg qualifier against Angola in Luanda.

Zambia assistant coach Florence Mwila put the Copper Queens through their paces as they have continued to prepare for the match.

20 players inclusive of three foreign based players showed up at Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka to prepare for the massive fixture that will be followed by the return leg on 5 December at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola.

“The team is faring well, it’s a full-house and the preparations are going well with a few days to go before the match and everyone is prepared, they look fit and okay,” Mwila said.

“The final squad will be made later on Saturday but we are going with 23 players. The team is ready, everyone is putting in their best because they know what is at stake, if it were possible we would have picked everyone but we need to cut some numbers for the required list.”

There was a welcome sight for the ZESCO Ndola Girls trio of Charity Mubanga, Avell Chitundu and Leticia Lungu who took part in the session to complete the local assemblage of players called up for the Angola assignment.

Captain Barbra Banda, Racheal Kundananji, Racheal Nachula, Prisca Chilufya, Misozi Zulu and Hellen Chanda will join the team directly in Luanda..
