Copper Queens gear up for Banyana, Botswana friendly

The Copper Queens have stepped up preparations ahead of the two crucial international friendly matches as part of their build-up to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations – WAFCON.

Zambia is set to face reigning African champions South Africa on May 31st, before taking on Botswana on June 3rd with both matches to be played in South Africa.

The Copper Queens are in Group A’ at the WAFCON alongside hosts Morocco, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Speaking after a training session, Midfielder Maweta Chilenga said morale in camp is high as the team gears up for the challenge.

She said the upcoming friendlies will help sharpen the team’s readiness, adding that competition is stiff, but the players are excited to work with senior squad members.

Defender Esther Siamfuko said the friendlies will offer valuable experience, adding that the team is working hard to fine-tune tactics ahead of the tournament.

She also urged new players in camp to rise to the occasion and prove they deserve their place in the national squad.

And midfielder Natasha Nanyangwe said training is progressing smoothly, with all players putting in maximum effort.

She said the recent success of the U-17 girls’ national team has reignited the team’s motivation to make the country proud.
