AGUILA Stars Women FC of Zambia this afternoon ruthlessly edged Okakarara Golden Ladies FC of Namibia 5-nil to start their 2025 CAF U-17 Girls Integrated Football Tournament (GIFT) campaign on a high and positive note in their Group B opener played at Ngoni Stadium in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Luyando Banda who put up a player of the match performance opened the scores in the 13th minute with a long range strike before the dazzling Beatrice Chipupula added the second goal with another thunderbolt strike outside the box just before the break in the 44th minute in a dorminated display by Aguila.
After the break, Aguila brought in Serah Musonda for Edina Tembo in the 47th minute as the Eagles continued from were they left from by piling pressure and commanded proceedings over Okakarara which eventually paid off in the 74th minute when Banda completed her brace with a fine finish from close range inside the box.
Coach Essien Mubanga made more changes as Fostina Chisanga and Mary Chisowa were replaced by Chanda Lokota and Fostina Mulenga to add more depth to the team going forward.
Beauty Namukonda who bossed the midfield added the cherry and icing on the cake with a fourth goal with an easy finish inside the box in the 85th minute.
Coach Mubanga also gave a chance to Mary Njekwa and Mary Tembo who replaced the two opening goal scorers Banda and Chipupula respectively.
Njekwa quickly got involved in a thick of things and set up a well timed cross for super substitute Musonda who easily slotted home with an easy tap in making it 5-nil to Aguila in stoppage time.
Luyando Banda was voted as player of the match following her brace with her accolade handed over by Brenda Kunda from Zambia who is also serving among the match commissioners at this second edition of the CAF U-17 GIFT event.
Aguila who tops Group B on goal difference will face joint leaders Lishoeshoe of Lesotho who earlier in the day defeated Refilwe of South Africa 6-2 in what is expected to be an exciting top of the table clash on December 12 at 15h00.
The top two teams from Group A and B will book a place in the final set for December 18.
