ZSL five aside: ZamFoot CEO’s pick

The Zambia Super League is currently on hold due to the worldwide outbreak of the Coronavirus but most of the teams have played 24 matches with Forest Rangers leading the log.

We caught up with our Editor in Chief Aaron Mubanga to pick his Fantasy 5 aside team of the season so far.

Mubanga picked a 1-2-1 formation with Zesco United’s Ian Otieno in goal with his teammate Clement Mwape in front of him in defense. A third Zesco United representative Tafazwa Rusike is paired with Kelvin Kapumbu in midfielder and James Chamanga makes up the team.

Speaking about his choice in goal the Zamfoot CEO had this to say.

“Ian Otieno – He is arguably the best goalkeeper in the league for me. He makes a lot of good saves and commands his area well.

On Clement, he said – “A very good defender who puts in an extra shift every time he is on the pitch. He is good with man to man, recovery and also good in the air despite not being the tallest on the pitch.”

Speaking about his midfielders Mubanga added, “Kelvin Kapumbu, The Zanaco defensive midfielder is one of the very few ball playing defensive midfielders in the league. He can disrupt play, goes deep to get the ball and distributes it well. His passing is also good.

Tafadzwa Rusike, The Zesco midfielder is in a class of his own and creates a lot of chances. He can easily find space and pick out passes that most players can’t even imagine.”

James Chamanga’s goal tally this season is only surpassed by Baba Basile in the league and there’s no telling where Red Arrows would be without him. The 40year old center Forward has shown us that with discipline and hard work, age is just a number.

Performing wonders week in, week out in a competitive league is no easy thing to do.

In the current season, very few strikers come close to the legend. He has an eye for goal, he can hold the ball and his ball control is very good- Mubanga on Chamanga
