Zimbabwean defender, Mhango set to leave Kabwe Warriors
Zimbabwean international defender Winston Mhango has confirmed that he will leave Kabwe Warriors at the end of the season when his contract comes to an end.
The 30-year-old says he has attracted interest from an unnamed big club in the Zambia Superleague.
“I greatly enjoyed my stay at Kabwe Warriors after being signed by Tenant Chilumba, who is now with Forest Rangers. I am glad that my one-and-a-half-year stint has helped me attract the interest of other big Zambian clubs. The Covid-19 lockdown is slowing things but all things being equal, I should be moving,” said Mhango in an interview with Zimbabwean publication Chronicle.co.zw
“I believe I still have a lot to offer to Zambian football and as such I’m not thinking of returning to Zimbabwe soon.”
Mhango’s contract with the Magnificent People expires on Saturday and but due to the Coronavirus epidemic he will have to wait for the season to conclude according to FIFA’s directive of 7th April 2020.
Expiring player contracts usually end when the season ends, with a termination date that coincides with the end of the season. With the current suspension of play in most countries, it is now obvious that the current season will not end when people thought it would. Therefore, it is proposed that contracts be extended until such time that the season does actually end. This should be in line with the original intention of the parties when the contract was signed and should also preserve sporting integrity and stability.
“A similar principle applies to contracts due to begin when the new season starts, meaning the entry into force of such contracts is delayed until the next season actually does start.”
Mhango joined the Kabwe based outfit in December 2018, just a month after playing a pivotal role in helping the Zimbabwe champions, FC Platinum lift their second Premier Soccer League title.
