Zesco Shockers set top eight finish as their target

Having finished in 12th position last season in the FAZ/EDEN National league last season and participating for the second time in the FAZ second-tier league, Zesco Shockers are hopeful of a top 8 finish for the 2020/2021 season.

Being a feeder club for Zesco United who plies their trade in the FAZ Super League and with club licensing at stake even if they were to qualify for the super league they can’t participate but this has not deterred them from setting ambitious targets.

They want to maintain their status as regular campaigners in the second-tier league, to continue graduating players to their main team, and being the only club in Mongu in the western part of Zambia participating in FAZ second-tier league making them the pride of the people of Mongu.

“Our target for the season is very simple, as you know were a developmental team, our target is to finish in the top 8 and maintain our position in the league,” Shockers told the ZamFoot Crew in an interview.

They have prepared adequately for the forthcoming season and recently traveled to Livingstone for a pre-season tournament which involved 8 teams placed in 2 groups with group A comprising of Shamuel, Zesco Vic Falls, Livingstone Pirates, Eastland while Shockers were placed in group B alongside Napsa Linda, Simoonga and Maramba stars.

Schokers emerged as group leaders by beating Napsa Linda 4-2 with a second game posting a 3-0 result in their favor before drawing their last match 1-1 with Maramba stars. In the semi-finals, they thrashed Zesco falls 3-0 after which they went on to lose the finals 5-4 on post-match penalties after a scoreless draw in regulation time.

To make sure the team is ready for the task ahead, they have closed last season’s loopholes by adding 8 players’ new players to their roaster to match the competition in terms of quality and depth from their opponents.

Speaking to the ZamFoot Crew, Mr. Lubinda, the media secretary for the team expressed satisfaction with the preparations the team has done so far and he is confident that the top 8 targets will be met with ease.

On the league opener against Last season’s super league campaigners Kabwe youth sports academy this weekend scheduled for Mongu Stadium, Lubinda is confident that the team will carry all the 3 points.

FAZ/EDEN national league is slated for kick-off tomorrow, Saturday 31st October.
