ZEGA ARE CHAMPIONS…ZESCO seal ninth league title win after beating NAPSA
ZESCO United sealed their ninth league title win on Sunday afternoon following a 2-0 win over NAPSA Stars at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Numba Mumamba’s side came into the match needing only two points to seal the league title win.
The Ndola-based giants came into the match all guns blazing looking for an early goal but Shaban Odhorji in between the sticks for NAPSA Stars was equal to the task of keeping the scores level at 0-0.
However, the pressure paid off in the 40th minute as Jesse Jackson Were nodded in a Winston Kalengo pass from close range.
In the second half, NAPSA Stars came back looking to get back in the game but Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba who was knocking from the word go finally found the back of the net in the 81st minute with a brilliant strike from outside the area.
2-0 the match ended taking ZESCO United to 64 points and sealing their title win with three games left to play as Second-placed Sensational ZANACO can only reach 62 points.
The title is Zega Mambo’s ninth and they are now tied with Mighty Mufulira Wanderers and only Nkana (13) have won more league titles.
In the early kick-off, Forest Rangers and Indeni played out to a goalless draw. The draw means Fole Malembe lost a chance to move close to the top four brackets while Indeni passed up a chance to move away from the relegation zone.
