Zanaco head to Libya in search of first CAF Confed Cup group stage win

Zambia’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup, Zanaco FC have left for Libya ahead of Sunday’s group stage match day against Ahly Tripoli.

The Bankers are still searching for their first win after losing their opening two games, 1-0 to CS Sfaxien and 2-0 to Pyramids FC of Egypt.

Kelvin Kaindu’s men left for Benghazi at 21:25 Central African Time aboard a Qatar Airways flight.

Kaindu has emphasized on the team focusing alot in Sundays game. The former Power Dynamos boss also revealed that they have worked a lot on how to defend.

“We are in a tight position especially that we have not won any of the two games we have played . We need to focus on getting a positive result away,” he said.

“We need to be physically ,and Psychologically ready for the game. Traveling to the country is not easy because we have to pass through Tunisia and the game will not be played in the capital City but in Benghazi due to security concern.

“We have been working on having a tight defense and how we should attack especially when playing away from.

“We still have chances, And the game that’s key is the one we are playing, If we get a positive result it puts us back in the race.”

Striker Moses Phiri is optimistic that the team has a chance to qualify out of the group stage but need to win the game away in Libya.

“All is not lost so we just pray we win the next game so that we pick up ourselves and we are encouraging ourselves so that we can put a smile on the faces of our fans,” Phiri said.

“We want to win this game and then when they come get another result which will be better for us.”

“It’s football, If we stay focused and do what the coach wants, It will be a good group stage for us. We can finish second or even first,” he added.

Kaindu has named a strong 20 member squad led by striker Moses Phiri. Ackim Mumba will miss the match due to injury.

Tshite Mweshi and Felix Bulaya are will also miss the trip to Benghazi.

The Bankers and the Tripoli bases outfit will square off on Sunday at 21:00 Central African Time at the Benina Martyrs Stadium.
