Zambia U20 Women beat Burundi 2-1 in the first leg of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Bujumbura.
Goalkeeper Chishala Mafunte converted from the spot to give Zambia the lead in the 44th minute.
Esperance Habonimana equalised for Burundi in the 70th minute.

With the match headed for a draw, Ruth Muwowo stunned the home crowd with a well taken goal to propel Charity Nthala’s side to victory.
Zambia will host Burundi in the second leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on September 27, with winner advancing to the third round of African qualifiers.
