Zambia U20 National team: The new Era
The U20 National team will on Wednesday start their title defence against Uganda and the country is very expectant and excited at the same time.
Before the tournament kicks off let’s look at the team and some of the questions that have raised and ofcourse the players to look out for.
COMPARISONS WITH THE LAST U20 NATIONAL TEAM
The new team is basically approved U17 squad that the technical bench is looking at developing into a formidable team like their predecessors, So can we please spare them the huge expectations and let them perform without pressure. The People want to know who the next Fashion, Edward Tiger, Mwepu, Pastson is but each team is different with its own strengths and weaknesses.
The boys also have some very fantastic players who will bring sparks to Nkana and Arthur Davies stadium. The experience in the last team was so massive despite the team being an U20 National team. For most of these boys the U17 COSAFA Championships was their first international outing.
WHERE IS GAMPHANI JONES LUNGU, KUNDA NKANDU, DAMIANO KOLA AND OTHERS
You will recall that at the start of the residential camp 45 players were called into camp and all of a sudden the number reduced to 25 before eventually moving to the final 20.
20 players were dropped at once not because they were not good enough or anything but because their details in the system and the documents did not collaborate. In the instancy of Gamphani National Assembly took wrong details to FAZ for his registration from thhe information on his birth records and other documents.
The technical bench were not so keen on taking a gamble after what happened barely a year ago at U17 level. Since they had little time to correct the information or re-inforce they decided to work with what they had .
Andrew Phiri: The young right back is one of the players who impressed me due to is awareness and understanding of the beautiful game. He is a modern day right back that can overlap and trek back to defend.
Kingsley Hakwiya: The Dream factory defender is a pillar in that defence. The boy is very calm, corrected and very good in dispatching his duties. In the game against Zanaco Kennedy Musonda was pocketed and could not find his mojo as the youngster was all over him.
Ngosa Sunzu: The only player returned from coach Beston Chambeshi’s world cup heroes. Ngosa, Naturally a defensive midfielder has been moved to central defence and has accounted well for himself. His height is advantageous when defending and attacking set pieces something he is making use of very well.
This is a department that has alot of good talents and will be very competitive and give the coaches headache when making their first eleven.
Clinton Lubala: The youngster is very skilful and can beat opponents with easy something that will cone in handy at COSAFA championships. The teams set piece taker is one of the creative minds of the squad.
Muma Mumba: The wonder kid from Mamba is a marvel to watch. He controls the temple of the game and everything passes through him. A very creative lad I must add.
Prince Mumba: The heart and Captain of the side is very industrious. Very creative and gives strikers options in a way of a support striker once Zambia move into attack mode.
Benson Kolala: The defensive midfielder with These vision of a super midfielder. The left footed youngster is a one excellent talent will wow crowds at the tournament. He plays football with easy and has great vision and amazing pass accuracy.
Musonda Kalale and Chanda Mukuka
Lameck Banda: Who doesn’t Know the Nkwazi wonder kid?. The boy was born to play football. He one striker that senior national team players need to be waiting for to permanently join them. He can run at defenders with easy, Has tremendous pace and a Knack for goals. One player who might fancy his chances of getting a Golden boot.
Martin Njobvu : The player from Nchanga Rangers is a goal Machine. Teams at the U17 Cosafa can testify. The lanky forward is a typical number nine is a striker on song .Zambia can rely on him to get them goals cone the 6th of December.
