Women’s Leagues remain suspended- FAZ
The Football Association of Zambia ( FAZ) has confirmed that the FAZ Women’s Leagues remain suspended until the review of the prevailing health situation by the authorities gives the go-ahead.
There has been a lot of rumors surrounding the resumption of the Women’s Leagues but according to a press statement by FAZ Communications manager Sydney Mungala which was availed to the ZamFoot Crew, The Women’s leagues together with men’s lower-tier football remain suspended.
“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to advise women clubs that their league remains suspended until the review of the prevailing health situation by the authorities gives the go-ahead.
FAZ has been inundated by queries over the resumption of the league following the return of the National Division One and Super League to action on July 18, 2020. However, the lower division leagues (provincial) and women leagues remain suspended until the authorities give the all-clear.”
FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala told FAZ media that the Association was monitoring the situation and will advise if the resumption of football can be extended to lower divisions and Women’s football with guidance from the Ministry of Health.
“As we guided earlier, the resumption of football in the country will be done in phases and in accordance with the guidance from the Ministry of Health,” Kashala said.
“We continue to monitor the situation on the ground and will advise our members in due course on the possibility of spreading the resumption of the league beyond the National Division One and Super League.”
Zambian league resumed on July 18th, 2020 with five games having been played across the Super League and National Division one already. Kashala has reiterated the call by the Association for the clubs involved in the resumed leagues to step up adherence to health guidelines.
“We urge our members to step up with adherence to health guidelines as we have seen a notable spike in the numbers in the country. We will heavily rely on the advice from the health authorities for every decision we make,” he said.
Women leagues in Zambia are fully functional in Lusaka, Central, Copperbelt, and North-Western provinces.
