Week 16 wrap: Zesco and Napsa edged as Kansanshi and Nkwazi finally record wins
The MTN/FAZ Super League week 16 was full of action and saw log leaders Zesco United and second-placed Napsa Stars all suffer defeats while Kansanshi Dynamos and Nkwazi finally won after going 10 and 11 games respectively without a win.
The weekend also saw four players being sent off the list led by Buildcon forward Moses Phiri.
The weekend started with a Friday match that saw Nkwazi welcome KYSA at Edwin Imboela Stadium. Nkwazi came into the match having failed to record a win in their last eleven games.
The Police sponsored out-fit however put that phase behind them thanks to second-half goals from Jeff Banda and Emmanuel Chabula to beat KYSA 2-0 and record only their second win of the season.
On Saturday at Nkoloma Stadium a doubleheader took center stage as Green Buffaloes hosted Power Power Dynamos and Napsa Stars played host to record twelve-time Champions, Nkana.
Power dynamos were looking to extend their winning streak but Bilton Musonda and his Zambia army sponsored out-fit had other plans as they held them to a goalless draw, The first time Perry Mutapa has dropped points as head coach of Abayellow.
In the second match, Nkana needed the brilliance of Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba who netted a fine strike in the second half to edge a resilient Napsa Stars side 1-0. The Muhammad Fathi coached side has now suffered back to back defeats for the first time this season.
In Choma, Green Eagles beat ten men Buildcon 2-0. Ronald Chibwe and Spencer Sautu scored the goals for the Kawale Boys.
Buildcon were reduced to ten men at the death of the first half for an off the ball incident as he punched Warren Kunda in the face.
At Shinde, Mufulira Wanderers were handed their 12th defeat of the season at home. Emmanuel Manda scored the only goal of the game as Lumwana Radiants walked away with maximum points.
In Solwezi, The match between Kansanshi Dynamos and Nakambala Leopards was abandoned due to heavy downpour, the pitch was tested and was deemed not fit for the match to continue after the first 45 minutes.
The remaining 45 minutes of the match had to be played on Sunday, Royd Alufonso converted from the spot 12 minutes into the second half to give the Mabanga Boys their first win in eleven games.
At Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Zesco United was handed a shock 1-0 defeat by 9- men Forest Rangers in a Ndola derby. Ngulalwey Mbelenga scored the only goal of the game.
Forest Rangers were reduced to 9 men after Cedric Djeugoue and Kigonya were sent off within a space of three minutes in the last 15 minutes of the match.
On Sunday another doubleheader came alive at Nkoloma Stadium as Lusaka dynamos squared off with Sensational Zanaco in a Lusaka derby while Red Arrows welcomed Kabwe Warriors.
Lusaka dynamos run riot beating the Bankers 3-1 with goals from Baba Basile, Ocean Mushure and Aubrey Funga while Souleymanou Moussa scored for the Bankers and also missed a penalty in the same match.
LD finished the match with ten men after Ocean Mushure was sent off for a second bookable offense.
In the second match of the day, Kabwe Warriors beat Red Arrows 1-0 thanks to a Jimmy Ndhlovu lone strike.
