USA🇺🇲: Banda, Chawinga score in the top of table clash

Barbra Banda scored the opening goal and was also involved in the build up to win a penalty for the second goal in Orlando Pride’s narrow away victory over Kansas City Current in the National Women’s Super League.

And Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga grabbed KC Current’s consolation goal.

The Zambian international put Orlando Pride in the lead in the 37th minute when she pounced on a loose ball after Adriana’s shot deflected into her path.

Chawinga then went on a fantastic run a minute later beating four Pride defenders before slotting past Anna Moorhouse.

Two minutes later, Orlando Pride was reduced to ten players after Carrie Lawrence was sent off for a second bookable offense both on Chawinga.

In the second stanza, Pride came back looking to contain the most offensive team in the league with a player less.

After a brilliant run by Banda she threaded a pass to Adriana whose initial shot was blocked but she ended up winning a penalty thanks to her determination.

Marta stepped up and dispatched off with some finesse, a dinky into the middle of the goal sending Adrianna Franch the wrong way.

Anna Moorhouse made some fine saves towards the end of the match to make sure Orlando Pride went on to win the match and extend their unbeaten run.

The loss for Kansas City is their first of the season ending their 17 match unbeaten run.

Banda has now scored 12 goals in 12 games and With the goal, Banda becomes the first player in NWSL history to reach 12 goals in under 16 appearances.

She will now shift her attention to the 2024 Paris Olympics as she joins the Copper Queens later this week.
