Tupolopolo teach South Africa footballing lesson

The Zambia U20 national team mauled their bitter rivals South Africa 6 – 1 to make a flying start in the men’s football tournament at the African Union Sports Commission (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on Friday.

Despite missing the renowned U20 team members, the Hector Chilombo drilled lads were classes above their opponents as they had posted a comfortable 5 goals by half time with Patson Daka scoring a hat-trick in the game.

Daka opened the scores before the South Africans succumbed to more pressure in the seventh minute when their goalie and captain failed to deal with Daka shot.

The U17 captain completed his hat-trick on 16 minutes, before Patrick Ngoma opened his account with a fourth for the young Zambian.

Harrison Musonda added a Zambian fifth just before halftime as Zambia’s dominance took it toll.

South Africa might have feared the worst when Zambia added a sixth three minutes after the break through Patrick Ngoma, but they did put up a better showing after that.

They were awarded a penalty midway through the second period when Jonathan Daka felled wiseman Meyiwa in the box and Felix Noge stepped up to score a consolation goal.

Daka was given a straight red from the incidence.

espite the Football Association of Zambia having disowned the team after not being happy with the team list submitted, the lads have gone about their business in superb style with very high morale.

The Africa Youth Championship bound group B leaders will be back in action tomorrow against Namibia.

The Under-20 team has Mangani Banda, Jonathan Phiri, Harrison Chisala, Boyd Mkandawire, Samson Banda, Paul Banda, Sydney Phiri, Samson Sakala, George Mandu, Albert Musonda, Kasashi Lupiya, Patson Daka, Patrick Ngoma, John Musonda, Kingsley Mukuka, Charles Yande, Moses Phiri and Crispin Sakulanda

    • The AFCON Champions who will send the cup via DHL or FEDEX. Nigeria has broken a record. These chaps were laughing when we bowed out of the group stage last year. At least we qualified and never lost a game. Manje beve ba buluzi aba ba sebana.

  2. nigeria will maintain 13 players out of the 21 players that won the fifa u-17 worldcup in uae, including man city kelechi iheanacho who won the mvp of the tournament, musa yahaya of tottenham, isaac success of granada spain, awoniyi, alampasu etc

  3. We have strong junior teams u17 and 20 hv both qualified to junior Africa cups watch out Nigeria.Nigeria are u going to the main Africa cup the answer is no hahaha the consolation for u is only the under 20 lol

  4. Ba guy bamo i dont know, who re interested in those names and their respective clubs whatever their names are.the thing is u20 wired their opponent and when we meet with U 90minutes go dertemine the would be outcome.no hard feeling.

  5. Infact naija pipo shud stop talking abt zambia coz we re better dan u, maybe try talking abt congo and SA coz they are yo masters in football. As for zambia s.a is nt an issue we can beat them at any level and at any time, wat the “tupolopolo” have done is evidence enough

  6. Can you all chaps concentrate on the tournament we have in Zimbabwe stop trash talks with Nigerians, I haven’t seen them insulting us. Yes it’s true they might have the best juniors in Africa they have accolades to show, do we? We only have COSAFA let’s just build both U17 and U20 teams that will go and conquer the West Africa. Good job U20 hit Namibia too

    • And shockingly enough, you will see this name being officially adopted like they did to the sickening “shepolopolo” name.

  7. Nigeria, the AFCON defending Champions who will not defend the cup and will send the cup via DHL or FEDEX. Nigeria has broken a record. These chaps were laughing when we bowed out of the group stage last AFCON. At least we qualified and never lost a game at last AFCON. Manje beve ba buluzi aba ba sebana.

  8. Who is responsible in naming these teams? I think it’s high time responsible people move in and do the needful. It’s like whoever has an opportunity to write just write whatever come in their minds. Yes ,freedom of speech but naming teams n giving them slogans shouldn’t be done with consideration n discretion . I’m talking about you Media guys you make these names “tupolopolo” shipolo whatever official by always displaying them on your contents! Stop it ! This is not a tarven!

  9. It doesn’t matter what is important is to win games earn recognition. If there is any team south Africa hates in Africa is Zambia because we have disappointed them a lot at situations where they had almost started cerebrations but the end result becomes sour.We did that at new land stadium in 2007 when Chris Katongo handed them a hard trick and in 2012 Nelson Mandela Cup. Collins Mbesuma stalled there happiness with a long range shot which kune failed to deal with. And we are still teaching them a lesson until we become above them on FIFA ranking.
