TRENDING ON SOCIAL MEDIA: We will give you Kandolo….as Zambians applaud Brighton for posting ‘a small gallery of Mwepu’
Zambian football fans again showed their appreciation to Brighton & Hove Albion FC after the English side posted pictures of Chipolopolo Midfielder Enock ‘Computer’ Mwepu on Wednesday morning.
While the fans from Lusaka are glowing frustrated with Leicester City social media pages for not posting any images of Patson Daka, it is the opposite for Brighton.
Brighton has already become aware of the patriotism of their newfound followers.
At exactly 6 pm CAT, Brighton posted four images of the former Chambishi and Kafue Celtic star with the following caption.
🇿🇲 A small gallery for our Zambian supporters this morning of The Computer, Enock Mwepu!
And within 20 minutes, the post had already gunned over 450 comments mainly from the Southern Africa country.
While applauding Brighton for the good gesture, Zambians also took time to take a swipe at Leceister City.
Brian Chanda Chiluba wrote “at least you are treating us better… We will give you kandolo (Sweet potatoes).
Mwepu recently signed a four-year deal at Annex Stadium from the Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.
The 21-year-old midfielder came through the youth ranks at Chambishi FC on the Copperbelt before he was spotted by Kafue Celtic during the Airtel Rising Star talent identification program.
He played in the second tier for Celtic before an unsuccessful loan spell at Power Dynamos and a very successful one at Napsa Stars in the Zambian Super League.
While he struggled for game time at Power Dynamos, the towering midfielder was one of the main players at Napsa and in Beston Chambeshi’s Zambia Under-20 which won the Cosafa Cup in December 2016 and CAF Under-20 African Cup of Nations in 2017 on home soil.
It was after his heroics in the engine room for the Junior Chipolopolo that he was signed by Red Bull Salzburg.
Mwepu also helped Zambia reach the quarter-finals of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Korea in 2017.
He has also been capped at Under-17 and 23 levels
He made his international debut off the bench in a Russia 2018 World Cup Qualifier against Algeria at Heroes Stadium in which he scored the third goal as the Copper bullets cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Desert Foxes.
