Top Players with Most Goals in Serie A

1. Silvio Piola

Piola is the only player at the top of the Serie A scoring rankings. Known as “The Bi-Cannon” due to his powerful shots with both feet, he gained attention during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. This is the time when he played for Pro Vercelli, Lazio, Torino, and Novara. His amazing 274 goals still stand as an undefeated record.

As a legend of only one club, Totti personified AS Roma. He was a member of the Giallorossi for 25 years of his career. With time, he rose to the position of captain and won a Serie A championship in 2001. Totti was a playmaker with great passing and vision skills, in addition to being a scorer. In Serie A history, his chipped “cucchiaio” penalty is still remembered as a legendary play.

3. Gunnar Nordahl

Nordahl, a Swedish great, brought his goal-scoring talent to AC Milan in the postwar era. He created a strong alliance with Gunnar Gren and Nils Liedholm. Later, this became “Gre-No-Li.” His most impressive accomplishment was in a single Serie A season (1949-50) – the time when he scored 36 goals

4. Giuseppe Meazza

A two-footed maestro, Meazza, also known as “Peppin,” is another name in the history of the greatest Italian footballers of all time. He won two World Cups with Italy (1934 and 1938), excelling for Inter Milan and AC Milan.  Meazza was a versatile attacker. He combined goalscoring with sublime dribbling skills and playmaking ability.

5. José Altafini

Altafini, an Italian international born in Brazil, has formerly played for AC Milan, Napoli, and Juventus.  Nicknamed “Mazzola” (not to be confused with the famous Valentino Mazzola), he was famed for his opportunism in the penalty box.
