They insult even our pots and dogs- Alfred Lupiya
Zesco United Assistant coach Alfred Lupiya says he is used to being criticized as it is part of the job. Lupiya told the ZamFoot Crew in an interview that the same fans who insult the coaches and their families are the same ones who come back to praise them when they do well.
Lupiya believes the only way to shut up the critics was to remain focused and deliver results. Some sections of Zesco United fans were calling for the head of head coach George Lwandamina and his assistants when the team was going through a bad patch.
“We are always ready for those things, They insult us, They insult our Children. They even insult our pots and dogs. We started football a long time ago. The same people who were calling for our heads have come back and are praising us. The only way to shut up critics is to remain focused and do the work,” he said.
Lupiya went on to reveal that the contracts they are given at Zesco United clearly stipulate that they need to win the league, Local cups and qualify for Continental football.
“We need this cup. Winning the league, local cups and qualifying for Continental football that’s our benchmark at Zesco as we are not mere participants. The contracts we sign at Zesco United clearly stipulate that we have to win the league, local cups and qualifying for Continental football, ” he said.
When asked whether they would be fired if they failed to win the ABSA Cup, Lupiya was confident it would not come to that as other teams also want to win.
Zesco will be searching for an unprecedented sixth title when they go head to head with Zesco United on Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in the final of the 2019 ABSA Cup. The two have met in the final of this competition two times previously and Zesco United emerged victorious both times beating the bankers 2-0 in 2010 and 1-0 in 2016.
