The first batch of the FIFA COVID-19 relief fund is in… Women’s football share yet to arrive

The Football Association Of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that it will soon commence the disbursement of the FIFA Covid-19 Relief Fund to its affiliate members.

According to a media statement monitored by the ZamFoot Crew on the Association social media page through the Communications Manager Sydney Mungala, FAZ has received the first batch of the Covid-19 Relief Funds from FIFA.

FIFA has committed $1.5 million as the total package for the COVID-19 relief fund with USD500, 000 allocated exclusively for womens football. The Women’s side of things will however have to wait a bit longer for their share which is yet to arrive.

Zambia currently has four Provincial Women’s leagues in Lusaka, Copperbelt, Central and North Western Province.

The money is expected to go a long way in alleviating some of the problems faced by Women’s sides who lack sponsorship and struggle to finance day to day operations.

FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala has said members should provide FAZ with updated financial details to avoid funds being diverted or delayed in reaching the clubs.

Kashala says affiliates will be expected to liaise with the finance department at FAZ to ensure they receive their allocation.

“We have finally received the Covid-19 relief funds and will be advising our members on the schedule for disbursement of these funds. We will be providing the specifics of the allocation with the members directly,” Kashala speaking

The first batch of FIFA Covid-19 funds is USD500, 000 while the same amount will be disbursed in January 2021.

As a result of Covid-19, which even saw the premature ending of the 2019-20 league season, FIFA announced that it was going to release some relief funds to help its member Associations who have been affected by the Corona Virus so that it mitigates some of the needs to its local members.
