South Africa based players to return to training tomorrow…As the country moves to lockdown level 3
Zambian players based in South Africa finally have some good news after the government announced new regulations for contact sport.
Teams from both the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the GladAfrica Championship will start training tomorrow, Monday, June 1st.
This comes after Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa, gave a green light for both non-contact and contact professional sport to return to action when the country moves to lockdown level 3 during a press briefing held on Saturday.
“The process of training for contact and non-contact Sport will resume under level 3. All sporting arts, culture or religious events are prohibited except religious gatherings and professional non-contact sporting events for the purpose of preparation of major sporting events,” said Mthethwa
“All sports bodies must within 14 days after the publication of these directions, inform the Minister in writing as to the date of resumption and further provide an operational guideline including a guarantee in the form of affidavits related to the testing of all officials.”
Lazarus Kambole’s Kaizer Chiefs are leading the log with Kennedy Mweene’s Mamelodi Sundowns closely in second place while Gamphani Lungu’s Supersport United are eight points away in third place.
Justin Shonga, Austin Muwowo, and Augustine Mulenga who feature the Buccaneers will look to put in extra work and push for more game time at Orlando Pirates.
Other Zambians in the PSL include Nathan Sinkala at Stellenbosch, Mwape Musonda at Black Leopards, Mwenya Cyril Chibwe, and Salulani Phiri at Polokwane City.
Collins Mbesuma, Rodrick Kabwe among others feature for GladAfrica Championship clubs.
The PSL and GladAfrica Championship matches could resume on July 1 and matches will be played behind closed doors according to reports in South Africa.
