Solwezi United set ambitious National Division One qualification target
Solwezi United is a team owned by Solwezi Municipal Council plays in Provincial Division one of North-Western Province. The team is under the tutelage of the Sandras Kumwenda, a former Zambia national team striker who played for the Chipolopolo boys in the late 90s.
Sandras Kumwenda has vast experience as a coach having coached Petauke United FC who helped to qualify for FAZ Division One South in 2007 making them the first Eastern Province team to ply their trade in Division One South of which at that there was two division one zones, Division one South and North of which top two teams from each zone would qualify and play in the Zambia Super League.
He would not just end on being on the dugout, he would also double as a player and in the 2007 and 2008 FAZ division one south, he finished as a top scorer for the league and made Petauke united regular campaigners in FAZ division one south.
Sandras has also coached Chipata City Council FC who also at one time campaigned in Division One
Speaking in an exclusive interview with the ZamFoot Crew, Sandras Kumwenda said his side has set winning all their games this coming season as one of their objectives.
Sandras has vowed that his side won’t drop any points on their quest to qualify for the EDEN University/FAZ National Division One.
Solwezi finished fourth last season and they are looking to build on that and finish top of the log and ‘win a scholarship’ to EDEN University.
“I’m hopeful that this season targets will be met because the Solwezi Municipal Council has pledged full support to the team this has been seen by the few reinforcements we have been allowed to make to the team, we have brought in a few couple of quality players to help bolster our chances of claiming the top spot,” Kumwenda told the ZamFoot Crew in an exclusive interview.
Kumwenda is confident that his troops are ready for the upcoming season and that the technical bench has done everything possible to make sure the boys are ready and are in good shape, ready to soldier in any fight.
He went on to assure the people of Solwezi that his team will not disappoint them this time around to ease the pain brought by the Coronavirus epidemic.
“We are doing everything possible to be sure that we are ready for the upcoming season, the pre-season session is going on very well and I can safely say we are there in terms of readiness all we are just waiting for the start of the league because if I say we are not ready now it will mean we won’t be ready anytime soon as you are aware that FAZ brought the league to an end prematurely last season thus making us have ample time to prepare adequately,” he said.
“solwezi united has been the pride for people of solwezi, we will make sure that we play to their pride and add a smile to their faces so that they forget about the impact of Covid-19, we are all aware that football is entertainment and was there entertainment people get to forget about their problems.”
“I can assure anyone that am confident of everything have said, have played football at the top level, have coached teams, and guided them to securing promotion so I know what it takes and what is needed,” he added.
The 2020/2021 Zambia football season kicks off on the 24th of this month with lower leagues set to kick off early next month.
