Mweene: Senior players get the blame not the youngsters

Zambia Kennedy Kapalayi Mweene has revealed the comradeship in the Chipolopolo ahead of Saturday’s Russia 2014 World Cup qualifer against Nigeria.

The 2012 African Cup of Nations winning goalkeeper together with defender Stopilla Sunzu and midfielder Chisamba Lungu are the only surviving members from that heroic squad that defied odds to lift the trophy in Gabon.

“The most important thing is to come here and the enjoy the game,” the 32 year old told journalist in Uyo state on Thursday afternoon.

“We don’t put pressure on anyone. We the senior players, myself, Stopilla [Sunzu], and Chisamba [Lungu]…get the blame for anything,” The former State Lodge and Kitwe United goalkeeper added.

“For this game everyone is relaxed and just looking to the game on Saturday.

When asked about the expectations about the fans back home, Mweene said, “They know what we can do on a given day.”

The double over Algeria by the Chipolopolo Boys has sent shivers in the Super Eagles campus

A win for Zambia will take the Southern African country level on 10 points with Nigeria.

The West African were runner away leaders having picked three straight wins but a resurgent Zambia has given the Nigerians something to think about.

Though Nigeria have been trying to show the invincible tag, the Super Eagles lost 2-0 to South Africa in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.

    Eish that goal difference……

A question gents…I know my question falls down to mathematics lol…but if Zambia wins tomorrow and then both Zambia and Nigeria win their last games against Cameroon and Algeria respectively, what will be the criteria to pick who has won the group be, goal difference or head to head?

  2. Soccerguru says:

Zambia will be out…we need Algeria to do us a favour and beat Nigeria at home in the last game

  3. Bsimms says:

If we are serious about Russia 2018; we don’t have to concede in Uyo, thereafter we should humiliate Cameroon on the pitch when they visit Lusaka.

Zambia lost the game in ndola.it will be a mountain to climb in uyo. Zambia s defence is weak.the will not contend with the pace of musa and Moses.

I plead with us the fans to be moderate in our expectations. Before the game Nigeria vs Cameroon in Uyo. There was so much confident talk by the Cameroonians, especially their coach of how they were coming to Uyo to beat Nigeria. The Cameroonians made it look like its a done deal. But Etoo’ phills warned them to disregard the 2-0 bashing by South Africa, that Nigeria didn’t play to its strength. And true to Etoo’., it was a massacre in Uyo 4-0 it ended in favour of Nigeria. I am uncomfortable with the players, fans and ba wada wadas loud egos. As for me, this match will determine if we will stick with the young lads or fall back to experienced players. Chipps!!! All the way!!!!

It is the Nigerians ranting that they are thru to the World Cup, already as they never learn. Denmark did teach them a lesson at the world cup in France when the Nigerians thought they had already qualified to meet Brazil. Denmark made short of them and were clobbered 5-1. Which world cup?? We will beat them

Some danish player put right ” and he said the following mark my words

“Nigeria think they are so good that they are like Jesus Christ and can walk on water” That is Nigerians are. Europe is full of prositutes from that end hahahaha bafikala
