Pirates fight back from a goal down to beat Diggers
The Landlords, Livingstone Pirates once again labored to get three vital points in the race for National League playoffs promotion after coming from a goal down to win in the last minute against Diggers in the FAZ Division one south League match played at Busiku on Sunday.
The game began to like it was division two teams playing with Livingstone Pirates players playing like they were leading already. It took the visitors just 38 minutes to find the back of the net through a long-range shot to surprise the hosts and let them know they were not pushovers.
Pirates gave away an easy ball just outside the 18-yard area, Last Michelo rose for the occasion to give his side a lead with a beautiful volley to beat Peter who was found napping in goal.
The goal came as a wake-up call for the Bupe Chewe led side as the newcomers gained confidence and looked solid at the back ensuring that the ball was not played in their third.
Pirates created chances of their own and in the 41st minute Kalambili had a chance to level but his shot went direct into the palms of the goalkeeper while in the 44th minute Steven Mwanza’s shot went just a few inches over the bar as the game went to half time, 1-0.
After the break, the Landlords came back stronger hoping to get an equalizer and most probably the winner. Pirates gaffer, Bupe Chewe made a change bringing in Davison for Hagai in the 55th minute.
On the hour mark, Landlords equalized through the substitute Davison who finished off a good ball from the right-wing to give his team a lifeline, Lemmy made a beautiful pass from the right-wing which found Davison in space and he slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 1-1 as Diggers defenders were caught sleeping on duty.
Pressure started to mount on the visitors as both coaches made changes and eventually a Diggers right back defender was given making orders following a second bookable offense to reduce the visitors to ten men.
After missing many chances, Davison made up for his mistakes in the 85th minute when he scored the winning goal to spoil the party for the Chikankata based side after Lemmy beat the offside trap to square it off in the 18-yard area for an easy taping in, The same combination like for the opening goal.
Diggers tried to come back into the game to force a draw but time was not on there hands as the Landlords secured a hard-fought 2-1 win.
