Patson Daka ends AFCON qualifiers with five goals

Zambia forward Patson Daka scored ended the Cameroon 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers with five goals to emerge as the top scorer.

The 21-year-old scored a brace on Monday in the 2-nil win over Zimbabwe.

He also scored another brace against Algeria on Sunday in the 3 all draw. Both goals came from the spot.

Tanzanian-based Clatous Chama scored the other goal.

Daka missed matchday 3 and 4 matches against Botswana through injury.

In his absence, Red Bull Salzburg teammate Enoch Mwepu and Lusaka Dynamos midfielder Collins Sikombe got the goals for Zambia in coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s first competitive match as Zambia won 2-1 in Lusaka.

The Copper Bullets then went on to lose 1-nil in Botswana.

Earlier on, Daka arguably scored his best goal in the Copper shirt as showed grit, pacy, and power to pull one back for Zambia in the 2-1 home defeat to Zimbabwe last year in the first edition of the ‘The Battle of Zambezi’.

With yesterday’s goals, it means that Daka has scored three past Zimbabwe.

On matchday 1, Zambia lost 5-nil to Algeria.

In total, Zambia scored 8 goals and conceded 12 in the qualifiers.

Daka scored 5 of those with Chama, Mwepu, and Sikombe sharing the other goals.

Does this remind you of a certain Collins Mbesuma in 2004/05 or the late Kelvin ‘Malaza’ Mutale?

Mbesuma scored a hatrick against Congo Brazzaville and two more goals to finish the campaign with five goals.

While Mbesuma honed his skill in Luanshya’s Mpatamatu township, both Daka and Mutale are Kafue natives who spend their childhood playing with a plastic-made ball at Khosa Stadium.
