Pataaki make it three wins in three games
Pataaki Girls have continued with their impressive form in the 2020/21 FAZ Women’s League season with another victory this time around defeating Lusaka Red Lions Women 2-0 in a Match Week 3 encounter played on Saturday, morning at Olympia Park Secondary School Grounds to maintain their 100% winning record in as many games as they have played so far in this season.
A goal each from Ruth Mwanza and Pauline Zulu was enough for the Stubborn Girls to record their third win of the season from three games to maintain an excellent form.
The match kick-off was delayed due to the heavy rains experienced but the game started on a cagey note with both sides testing each other in the early moments of the game but nothing much to write home about in the opening few minutes.
However, Red Lions’s goal poacher Mary Namukonda who has so far scored 2 goals in this campaign scored but her goal was disallowed for offside in a tight position to deny the visitors an early lead.
A few moments later, Ruth Mwanza who is one of the youngest players in the league opened the scores in the 10th minute for Pataaki finding the back of the net through a well taken shot inside the 18-yard box after she was left unmarked.
Red Lions tried to fight back but failed to penetrate the Stubborn Girls defense as Pataaki led 1-0 going into the break.
In the second half, Pataaki captain Pauline Zulu extended the lead slotting home the second goal for the Coach Patrick Luwe Phiri drilled lasses to seal the victory with a comfortable 2-0 win over Red Lions who have now succumbed to their third loss of the season.
Meanwhile, the second of the doubleheader at the same venue saw Mapani Queens equalizing late in the game to force a 1-1 draw against strong visitors Misisi Queens United.
Misisi were the first to score just inside the first 15 minutes converting from the penalty spot through Twambo Namonje.
Mapani struggled to equalize and they had to leave it late until the dying minutes of the game and coincidentally they were also awarded a penalty after Sarah Jere was brought down in the box and Margaret Sakala stepped up and scored a beautifully taken spot-kick to make sure that they pick an important point at home as the game ended 1-1 with spoils being shared.
Pataaki’s next game is a long trip to Misisi Queens United while Mapani will be away to Football Chance Foundation Girls as Red Lions will play host to ZISD in Match Week 4 of the new season.
