No Love lost…As Ian Otieno makes an emotional return to Nkoloma Stadium
Zesco United and Kenya international goalkeeper Ian Aubrey Otieno makes an emotional return to Nkoloma stadium for the first time to face his former side Red Arrows football club since making the switch to Ndola giants Zesco United.
Otieno made his Red Arrows debut at Nkoloma stadium against Monze Swallows and helped the Airmen to a 2-0 victory keeping a clean sheet on his first assignment in Zambian football.
The ZamFoot Crew caught up with the Kenyan goalkeeper talk about his emotional return to Nkoloma Stadium. Otieno said he is relishing the chance to face his former team and see some familiar faces.
“Firstly I am happy to return to the place I called home for 2 years, so I will cherish every moment that comes,” Otieno said.
“I can’t exactly pinpoint that one special memory about Nkoloma because everything is special to me about that place. This is the place that welcomed me with open arms so it’s very special to me,” he added.
When asked about his former teammates Otieno said there was no love lost and confirmed that they keep in touch.
“Not really about the game but yes we do communicate because they’re part of me and I left with their blessings, so no love lost,” he said.
Otieno says he wants to see the Airmen finish in the top four as they are a decent side. He revealed he always roots for the Airmen unless they are facing his current club.
“As Zesco United we have set our targets clear which we are working every game to achieve the results at the end of the season. Red Arrows have been my former team I would love to see them finish in the top four, they’re a very decent side and playing good football, I always support them and want them to win there games apart from when we are playing them (Laughs).”
“I have much love and respect for both sets of fans Zesco United and Red Arrows have passionate fans and I love playing in front of them and on Wednesday we hope to entertain the fans as both sides play a good brand of football,” he added.
Red Arrows will play host to Zesco United at Nkoloma Stadium this Wednesday in week nine Zambia Super League encounter and a victory for Otieno and his teammates will see them maintain top spot.
A win for the Airmen will see them move closer to the summit and the Zambia Airforce sponsored outfit have two games in hand.
