Lameck Banda on Friday beat off competition from City of Lusaka captain Edward Tembo and Mighty Mufurila wanderers winger Chris Sakulanda to emerge as the 2017 MTN/FAZ super league young player of the year at gala held at Moba hotel in Kitwe.

The Nkwazi forward was however not amazed by the outcome as it was something he was already expecting.

“I had no doubt i would win this award looking at my performances in the just ended seasson,” he said.

The Under 20 national team striker was nevertheless very happy to win the award despite knowing he would win it.

” l am very happy to win this award especially that it’s my first but I won’t stop here, I will keep working hard,” he said.

Banda was part of the U17 national team that won the COSAFA U17 youth Championships in Mauritius netting five times equal with eventual top goalscorer Martin Njobvu.

He later represented Zambia in the 2017 Mopani Copper Mines COSAFA U20 Championship but he failed to find the net as Zambia crushed out in the first round.
