Nkana players almost boycotted the Forest match
Cash strapped Nkana got a scare on Wednesday when their players almost boycotted Thursday’s MTN Super League match against Forest Rangers, the ZamFoot Crew understands.
It has now emerged that the players have gone for two months without receiving their salaries.
In addition to the salaries, the players have also not being paid winning bonuses.
On Wednesday, the executive meant with the players to hear their grievances.
It was resolved that the players will receive their dues next week.
After the meeting, the players decided not to go into camp as per tradition. The all reported from home.
“Boycotting the match could have been bad for the team. So we decided just to protest by not going into camp,” a Nkana player told the ZamFoot Crew on Thursday after the 2-1 home defeat to Forest Rangers.
“At the moment even us players are confused. The team keeps on signing new players despite us going for months without getting paid.
Nkana’s financial problems hit social media when Republic President Edgar Lungu bailed them twice to fulfill continental fixtures.
Last week, Zambia’s most decorated club had to use Zambia Air force plane to fulfill a continental fixture in Tanzania.
Nkana host Namungo at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday.
The Reds are currently in the drop zone in the MTN Super League.
