Given Singuluma was the first player to win a golden boot at the African nations Championships (CHAN) in 2009. The TP Mazembe man sat down with Zambianfootball.co.zm going down memory lane to 2009 in Ivory coast where it all started.
Singuluma describes playing in the first ever CHAN tournament as a nice feeling. The tournament gave him the much needed publicity landing himself a TP Mazembe contract and a year later he was facing Inter Milan in the final of the Club world cup.
“It was a nice feeling to play in the inaugural (CHAN) tournament, Because it was a platform for local players to show their worth and of course to win professional contracts. We really enjoyed that time,” Singuluma told Zamfoot in an exclusive interview.
In 2009 Zambia came out third after losing to Congo DR in the semi-finals and then beating Senegal in the third and fourth play off. Singuluma believes the tournament is very competitive and Zambia has to prepare adequately to stand a chance.
” The tournament is big now that’s why it has been difficult to win it, Because the competition is stiff now and the team (Zambia) needs to prepare adequately,” he said.
Zambia are currently in camp preparing for the tournament and have lined up a high profile friendly match against Cameroon prior to kick off of the tournament.
Zambia were drawn in group B alongside Namibia, Ivory coast and Uganda
Given was a good striker though he was not frequently and consistently called for Chipolopolo and I feel he has passed his peak, however I enjoyed seeing play at the Inaugral chan in Ivory Coast.
its true let him come home and assist our local teams and later become a coach.
This is what the advisors for Auga failed to tell him. To win professional contracts like Singuluma has put it. Ba Augu wait for CHAN and then go for your ambitions. I thank you.
