NAPSA Stars relegated, Zanaco to play Champions League as the battle for Confed Cup and survival goes to the wire
NAPSA Stars have been relegated from the MTN/FAZ Super League following a 1-0 loss at the hands of Nkwazi while Zanaco will play in the CAF Champions League after Red Arrows played to a goalless draw with Kabwe Warriors.
The Pensioners came into the match needing a win to keep their hopes of surviving relegation and anything less would not be enough.
With a match looking like heading for a draw Stephen Mutama produced one of his brilliant free-kicks in the 67th minute to put Nkwazi in the lead. The goal proved enough to end NAPSA Stars’ nine-year stay in the Premier League.
Elsewhere, Zanaco gave away a one-nil lead to losing 2-1 to Prison Leopards away in Kabwe. Peter Kalota put the Bankers in the lad in the 24th minute before Junior Zulu could level matters six minutes later.
David Obash scored the winner five minutes to open up the battle for the two continental slots left. Elsewhere Red Arrows and Kabwe Warriors played out to a goalless draw which ensured that the Bankers keep their CAF Champions League slot while both Red Arrows and Kabwe Warriors have to battle for the two CAF Confederation Cup slots with Lusaka Dynamos, Nkwazi, Green Eagles, and Prison Leopards.
In Ndola ZESCO United edged Young Green Eagles 2-1 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to make sure the race for survival with Indeni and Nkana continues until the final day of the season.
In Choma, Green Eagles came from a goal down to beat Forest Rangers 3-1 thanks to goals from Collins Mulenga, Maybin Kalengo, and Lineker Mwiikisa.
