We are finally here

Welcome to the new season as we embark on the first-ever season that cuts across two years. Its history in the making as usual just as we have been doing from 2013, we are here again to give you a guide of what you expect to see over the weekend.

Take note these are opinionated previews and predictions and mainly decided on the head to head, recent history as well as signings made by the clubs. You expect to have these write-ups each week, as long as we have games.
Enjoy the games.

Zesco United Vs Zanaco
Levy Mwanawasa Stadium
Live on Supersport
Forget the 1-0 Charity Shield matchup between the two sides, in eight of their last games, both teams have two wins and the rest have been draws. For all of the focus on the loss of Lazarous Kambole and the runs that he left, it’s not like he was the best on the pitch for ZESCO United but his contribution was awesome.
The return of Ziyo Tembo will again be tested after turning up in the Charity Shield and actually scoring. This is one of the lights of the season. But ZESCO United is at home and they rarely lose here but with the form ZANACO is, this looks like another draw.

My Prediction: ZESCO United 1-1 ZANACO

KYSA Vs Buildcon
President Stadium
KYSA could not have asked for a tougher return to the Super League after a season in Division One. On the plus side, they do get the visit of the eliminated team from the CAF Confederation Cup out of the way first up and perhaps they will be able to catch Buildcon flat after the low note from Eswantin.
Remarkably they did not lose with big margins in the 2018 season when they played Buildcon, losing both games with lone goals, although there’s been a significant evolution for the Ndola outfit which won’t be easy for KYSA.
Buildcon may have been poor in CAF but I don’t see them losing this one as they have a much a stronger team in the league than what was registered in the CAF Confederation Cup.

A straight win for Buildcon for me as CAF would have given them better preparations.

My Prediction: KYSA 1-2 Buildcon

Mufulira Wanderers Vs NAPSA Stars
Shinde Stadium
Mufulira Wanderers have had a horrendous season in the near past and there really isn’t a lot of reason to feel confident in anything going on at that club right now. But perhaps the thought of having a number of foreign players could still be something they will hang on. Elijah Chikwanda has had a few moments as a manager but getting anything out of this squad could be his finest moment.

It hasn’t been all roses for NAPSA Stars this offseason but they have a squad that as it is currently constructed could score five in any given week… and also concede five. That’s what Muhamad Fathi should be working on. He was seriously hampered with some of the targets for the team who are believed to have gone back to Lusaka Dynamos. The Pensioners road woes are also very well documented but they should be able to get through this game with a win on individual effort alone.

I’ll take a simple Same Game Multi here and back a NAPSA win with at least two goals scored but Mufulira Wanderers rarely lose games at Shinde stadium and they know how this is important for the team. We surely have not seen a lot of Mufulira in the pre-season and hence they are a surprise package.

My Prediction: Mufulira Wanderers 0-1 NAPSA Stars

Nkwazi Vs Forest Rangers
The transitional season didn’t separate them and the two sides gave up 43 goals between them last season so don’t be too surprised if this one bucks the recent trend of low scoring clashes between them.
Emmanuel Chabula won it for Nkwazi in the first leg while Adam Zikiru and Austin Muwowo won it for Forest Rangers in the second leg last season.

Each of the last eight meetings between the two sides has had two or fewer goals but this has the makings of a slightly more free-flowing encounter and it won’t be easy for Nkwazi who last lost at home to Forest Rangers 1-0 in 2015.
Generally speaking, Nkwazi just isn’t that good defensively having only kept three clean sheets in their last eight games and will have a hard time keeping Forest Rangers at bay who have Adam Zikiru and a very confident Conlyde Luchanga.

I’ll back the stable Forest Rangers squad to get off to a fast start and score a few goals. Remember they last won here in 2015. This will be a big one.

My Prediction: Nkwazi 1-2 Forest Rangers

Kansanshi Dynamos Vs Power Dynamos
Independence Stadium
Barring a miraculous turnaround on deadline day of the Play-Off, Kansanshi Dynamos are a much more interesting prospect this season with their emotional success of a journey into the Super League. It was marred with a lot of drama, intrigue, and suspense. They are here and they can proudly say they belong to the Super League.

Power Dynamos are the visitor
Power Dynamos, on the other hand, has sort of stood with what they had last season and they should be happy that their star player is still in the team. They are again pushing to make an assault on the top four and really can’t afford a slow start like what we saw in the Transitional Season.

The remarkable thing is these sides still have transfer business to unfold with each other with Kansanshi Dynamos not yet settled with some signings and some late confirmations would be heard.

This won’t be an easy one for Power Dynamos as the Solwezi outfit is so excited to grab this one and we have to wait and hear if their appeal was successful on playing behind an empty stadium as that would be advantage Power Dynamos.
Nothing much to expect but I think Power Dynamos starts with a win here.

My Prediction: Kansanshi Dynamos 1-0 Power Dynamos

Green Eagles Vs Kabwe Warriors
Independence Stadium
At some point, Green Eagles’ trophy absence will come to an end and with the clear progress that is in Choma, they should take advantage of this very good time otherwise this may be very difficult to sustain. It would be a huge statement of intent to start off great this weekend especially with the celebration of knocking out Orlando Pirates from the CAF Champions League.

Regardless of which players leave or arrive in the next couple of days, they should be able to dish out a rough Super League welcome to Kabwe Warriors. With a mismatch such as this, it’s worth dipping into as one of the best games this weekend, well for a bet here a. backing an Eagles win and their leading marksman Tapson Kaseba for a goal at least.

If both of these clubs live up to their potential this season, this contest has the potential to be really entertaining. They will have their sights firmly set on a top-four finish and a good start will help that cause.

These teams were separated in the Transitional season but the last time they met here Kabwe Warriors beat Eagles 2-0 and went to draw 2-2 in Kabwe but Green Eagles beat Warriors 3-0 in the 2017 season and that season managed a double as they came away with a 2-1 victory in Kabwe.

With Tenant Chilumba now in charge at Kabwe Warriors and the attacking prowess of both sides I’m backing a very high scoring encounter.
Remember Kabwe Warriors are also defending the near unbeaten run of last season and they don’t want to destroy that record on the first day of the league but unfortunately I think Eagles will be too strong.

My Prediction: Green Eagles 2-1 Kabwe Warriors.

Lusaka Dynamos Lumwana Radiants
Don’t expect too many goals in this one as Lusaka Dynamos start from where they ended welcoming a team that rarely concedes from North Western Province.

What probably won’t change is the history of this low scoring encounters between the two sides, just six encounters between these sides since 2016 have seen not more than two goals scored.

Both have won twice in those six games, drew twice and lost twice. It’s asking a lot for Lusaka Dynamos to have this squad firing from the outset with the unsettling of players who were all over and just to be grouped late in preparation for this season.

What does seem like the most likely scenario is a cagey, low scoring encounter so as a value bet its worth backing under for this one and a draw seems more likely.

My Prediction: Lusaka Dynamos 1-1 Lumwana Radiants

Red Arrows Vs Nakambala Leopards
Nkoloma Stadium
In the last 22 times, these teams have met, Red Arrows counts 12 wins while Nakambala can only go to 6 and what is more encouraging for Nakambala Leopards is that three of those victories are counted at Nkoloma stadium. They will have hope of getting something from Red Arrows with the tendency of starting slow in the last few seasons. That has been the biggest let down by Red Arrows.

2004 was the last time Red Arrows bugged the title and even at that time their start was not encouraging drawing their first few games and it was shocking that they emerged victorious at the end of that season.

They need to learn to start strong and fight for the title if they want to end that long drought if they want to add to that league title and the Barclays Cup of 2013.

Nakambala Leopards last beat Red Arrows at Nkoloma on 21st July 2018 but the two teams finished on two different levels in the transitional season with Nakambala fighting relegation and Red Arrows fighting for CAF slot. It will continue hurting Arrows that they dropped out of the top two on goal difference as they ended on the same points with ZESCO United and ZANACO.

They will win this one if they are still at the same pace.

My Prediction: Red Arrows 2-0 Nakambala Leopards
Sunday, 1st September 2019

Nkana Green Buffaloes

Nkana Stadium

Live on Supersport
Quite a bit has changed since these two sides last met in the 2018 season and remember they were separated in the transitional season and hence the last they met the home sides lost and the visitors won.

The most obvious thing is the fact both sides will have to convince their fans after a poor showing in the transitional season. It would not be at all surprising to see both sides battling for a similar finishing position but in this instance, you have to give the edge to the side at home though they last beat Green Buffaloes at home in 2015. They have to break this bad run at Nkana stadium by getting a win here.

My Prediction: Nkana 2-0 Green Buffaloes

That will be all for week one and we can gather here to look at the actual results after these games are played. Be glued.
