Mwepu, Daka apologize for U23 disastrous outing

Zambia U23 and senior national team players, Patson Daka and Enock ‘Computer’ Mwepu have apologized to the nation for the U23 national team poor showing at the U23 AFCON tournament.

Mwepu took to social media to offer his apology saying he was ‘sorry’ for having ‘let the nation down’. He went on to say he would give everything this evening when he features for the senior team in their Cameroon 2021 AFCON qualifier against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

“The U23 AFCON was a learning experience for a lot of us. We’re sorry to have let the nation down. It’s time to pick ourselves up and bounce back. As always I’m proud to represent Zambia and will give it my all today.”

His counterpart, Patson Daka also took to social media to say he was disappointed that the team could not progress past the group stage.

“I’m disappointed not to have progressed further at the U23 AFCON. The entire experience was great and lessons have been learned. Time to shift my attention to the senior Zambia team. Today we go again!.”

The Zambia U23 national team dubbed the Dream team was eliminated from the U23 AFCON tournament after drawing 0-0 with South Africa, losing 3-1 to Nigeria and 1-0 to Ivory Coast. Ivory Coast and South Africa progressed to the next round joining hosts Egypt and Ghana in the last four.

    The Coach Chambeshi is the one who is supposed to be in the frint apologising the bark stops with him. His tactics and team selection is the reason we were knocked out.
