Moses Sichone agrees to join Charles Musonda on U20 bench

FORMER Chipolopolo defender Moses Sichone has agreed to be part of the Under-20 national team technical bench as assistant to the imminent appointment of Charles Musonda.

And FAZ president Andrew Kamanga says the association is exploring means of camping the team in Europe to give it enough exposure ahead of the CAF Under-20 Africa Cup which Zambia hosts next year.

Sources at Football House revealed that during his recent visit to Europe, Kamanga held fruitful discussions with Sichone who agreed to come and discuss personal terms with FAZ during the upcoming winter break.

“Most likely, Moses will be assistant to Charles Musonda and then another local coach will be part of that technical bench. Moses is coaching a youth team in Germany and he is more than willing to come and coach, but no one has been considering these people despite them having contributed immensely to the national team, so the president seized the initiative,” the source said. “

…We are casting the net wide, even Andrew Sinkala has been talked to, so the gentlemen will be coming on holiday soon and that’s when conclusions will be made. Because Moses specifically asked to go and inform his employers in Germany.”

When contacted, Kamanga could neither deny nor confirm the development.

“We are taking this tournament seriously, that’s why we are considering sending the team to Europe once assembled. All other preparations are going on well, I can’t say much at the moment. We will be updating you on the progress as we go forward,” said Kamanga.

Sichone and Sinkala were stars of the U-20 team that qualified to the World Cup in 1999 and both trekked to Germany to join Bayern Munich and later FC Cologne.

Both were part of the Chipolopolo in their heyday and have since taken up coaching in Germany after their retirement.

  1. Do they have credentials to match the challenge (we have participated in such youth tournaments and reaped poor results eg the U20 Olympic qualifying tournament with late coach Frigton Simukonda (MHSRIP) etc), are they up to the challenge ? I beg some feedback OR is it making their CVs like some European coaches have done with Chipolopolo lately kikikiki!!!

  2. If I may ask, when was Charles Musonda even hired as U-20 coach? Just a few months ago there was Kaunda, the Beston Chambeshi. I am a sole believer in stability and would urge Kamanga to make up his mind on who should be coach. Hiring and firing all the time does not help in building a team with consistent results. My apologies if I missed something, but I just don’t know when Charles Musonda was hired to even confirm that Sichone would be his assistant.

    • “When contacted, Kamanga could neither deny nor confirm the development” Ok I get it, this could qualify as one of those hypes from our media sources..no pun intended there Zamfoot!

  3. Two guys who have shunned Zambia or so the thinking goes… Anyway more pressing is how good they are at coaching. Their coaching ability is in question. What is not in question is the high level of professional football both achieved as that is the exciting prospect here – how much can they give these young players.

I welcome these appointments, it is fresh. They need allot of support in the organisation and time.

  4. Charles Musonda…. father of lamasha and Charles Musonda junior??? That’s interesting… when did the change of heart occur? Still…. a talented son of the soil… his contribution can only be positive. Good appointment I would say.

  5. Moses Sichone used to refuse to play for the national team that he wanted to paid similar allowances with the one’s he was getting in Germany very unpatriotic.

  6. Where are the. Pipo who critised charle musonda for not been. Patriotic, its unfortunate that our admin is so an organnised that it. Will frastrate. The two coaches just like lucky msiska

  7. Just give them support na imwe. why do you guys always want to pull down every development? criticism yes, but NOT all the time. Welcome back ba Charles en my brother Moses. Plz feel at home.

  8. But why a new coaching bench at the 11th hour?

We appreciate their patriotism but we have a Zambian based coach who has done well at Cosafa & evidently has knowledge of the players at his disposal. WHY NOT MAKE HIM HEAD COACH?

Surely Sichone & Musonda can provide assistance.

  9. uhmn!!! sounds like a good move but have those guys been appointed? i doubt coz FAZ is full of talks but no actions.
