Micho defends suspended Shonga
Chipolopolo boss Micho has defended under-fire Orlando Pirates forward Justin Shonga.
The Zambia international is serving a suspension at Pirates after allegedly breaking lockdown regulations with Thembinkosi Lorch.
However, Lorch’s suspension was lifted by the club while Shonga remains out in the cold.
“Sometimes, you need to read between the lines. Yes, sometimes it is 99% of the player. But there is 1% for the club. It is very hard being a player in a foreign country and I say this with a lot of respect to South Africa, ” the former Pirates boss reasoned at a Media briefing at Football House Thursday morning.
“Lorch had a problem with his wife and then went to Shonga’s house. I see Lorch on Instagram live saying “am at my friend’s house.”
“Both are suspended and Lorch is back in training but not Shonga. When I was at Pirates Shonga and Mulenga both very important players. Shonga scores 16 goals we win titles. Since I left, it is something else. We need to analyze the situation,” he said.
A Pirates statement two days ago announced that South African Lorch was admitted back among his teammates and not Shonga.
“Lorch has pleaded guilty to all charges that were brought against him by the Club. Lorch further apologized for his misdemeanor and has accepted the sanction imposed on him by the club.
“The 25-year-old has joined the squad in the BSE Bubble after undergoing his two Covid-19 tests as per the protocols,” the statement continued.
“Meanwhile, the club can confirm that Justin Shonga remains suspended as he awaits the finalization of the disciplinary proceedings against him.”
