MEET ISAAC: A young man combining music and football

A young man called Isaac Chisanga Mulenga or Isaac Jr has taken social media by storm by mixing two of the best things on the planet – football and music.

For nearly a century, football and music have been intertwined with a bond almost unbreakable.

From the Serenje Kalindula band singing the famous ‘Nalelo Ba Nkana bawina’ and the Sakala Brothers singing morale-boosting songs for the Zambia national team in the late 90s through to 2012, to the inescapable return of the brilliant ‘Bola Na Lesa’ in 2017, music elevates football from just another sport to a cultural centrepiece.

This link between music and football means both take cues from one another, and the connection has been made almost unmistakeable thanks to a young man called Isaac Jr.

In a interview with the Zamfoot, the former Circuit city player emphasised on his dream to continue playing football while preaching the gospel through music.

ZC: Who is Isaac Jr?

ICM: Isaac Jr is a child of God who believes in himself that he can do all things through Christ who strengthens him, was born and raised in Lusaka, frist born in the family of 4 and he has also grown up as a person who loves music and soccer.

ZC: When did you started your football career?

ICM: I started my football career in the year 2008.

ZC: Which clubs have you played for?

ICM: I have played for a number of clubs including, Young city of Lusaka, Lusaka youth Academy, National Assembly, Happy Hearts FC and Circuit City FC.

ZC: Looking at how congested the football scene is, do you feel intimidated?

ICM: Not quite, That actually is a positive challenge which allows me to work extra hard.

ZC: Which clubs do you dream to play for locally?

ICM: I would like to play for Power dynamos or Sensational Zanaco FC.

ZC: What are some of the challenges you have faced combining music and football?

ICM: A few minor challenges to do with time management when schedules are busy. Otherwise no major challenges at all.

ZC: Who are your Mentors?

ICM: Several people; some of them are; Pastor Choolwe, Evans Kangwa, Ephraim ( son of Africa), Pastor Matthew Kabanda etc.

ZC: Any ambitions of going to play outside the country?

ICM: Most definitely I want to go and play outside, Ukraine most especially.

ZC: Have your family been supportive of your career?

ICM: Yes they have been absolutely supportive, 100 percent.
