Mayuka seals Napsa Stars move
Zambian legend Emmanuel Mayuka has joined MTN Super League side Napsa Stars on a permanent deal.
The former Southampton striker is expected to go into the pensioners’ team for this Saturday’s league against Nkwazi in a mini Lusaka derby.
The 28-year-old started his career at Mphanza Chiefs. He trekked to Kabwe Warriors in 2006 and rose to stardom at the Canada 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship, a tournament which also featured the likes Gerald Pique, Luis Suarez and Edson Cavani.
On the local, Mayuka scored a hatrick for Kabwe Warriors at Nkoloma Stadium in the second last edition of the Bp top 8.
After the tournament in Canada, he attended trials at Sporting Lisbon and the end of the year there was a tug of war between Porto and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
By the end of the year, it was the Israel club which had won his signature.
After a successful spell in Isreal, Mayuka was signed by Swiss side Young Boys.
He then got a dream move to Southampton before loan spells at Sochaux and Metz.
Mayuka returned to Africa and signed for Zamalek.
They have been rumours that he was supposed to join Green Buffaloes but that never materialized.
On the international scene, together with Chris Katongo and Didier Drogba, they scored 3 goals at the 2012 African Cup of Nations to finish as top scorer.
While the goal against Ghana in the semi-finals in Gabon has always been talked, it is the bicycle kick at Woodlands Stadium against Botswana in a CHAN qualifier that is the best.
