Lesotho head coach Veselin Jelusic believes Zambia has a very good team with players who play in top leagues.
Reacting to the 2023 AFCON draw, The Serbian gaffer told the Lesotho Football Association (LFA) official website that his team will have to dig deep in all their games.
“Of course, Cote d’Ivoire’ are the hosts for the next year’s final and will treat the qualifiers very seriously because they have already started with their preparations to make it a successful tournament. They are a powerhouse with top professional players,” he said.
“We know that Zambia are a very good team with players that play in some of the best leagues in Europe like the English Premier League.
“Comoros are also a team made of professionals playing for European clubs in countries such as France, Belgium and so on,” he added.
The former City of Lusaka boss says his team will prepare adequately to get the best possible result while respecting every opponent.
“Our focus for the qualifiers will be on our preparations, but we knew anyway that in our group, we will get the top ranked teams,” Jelusic said.
“Regardless of the teams we are going to play, our approach will be the same, to prepare as better as we can and to respect all our opponents while at the same time, we do everything possible to get the best possible results.”
Likuena eliminated Seychelles to reach the group phase of the qualifiers.
Veselin is not a new name in Zambia, As in August 2019, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) had embarked on the heading hunting process for an expatriate coach and they actually settled for Veselin Jelusic only for the government to reject his appointment.
The Serbian coach however finally got his Zambian wish as he was appointed City of Lusaka head coach in August 2020.
Zambia will then host Comoros on June 14th (Match day 2) and then travel to Moroni with a date against Comoros on March 28th, (Match day 6).
