MTN Super League side Konkola Blades have reinforced their squad with five new players as they continue to shape their squad for the season, the ZamFoot Crew can exclusively reveal.
Striker Kenani Phiri joins on loan from FC MUZA and Makeni All Stars. Phiri was named in Coach Wedson Nyirenda’s 35 member provisional squad for the 2025 COSAFA Cup.
The lanky forward is a typical number nine with the body structure, knack for goal and hold play which makes him a hot commodity in this transfer window.
Phiri was with Makeni All Stars last season and was on song in the Lusaka Provincial League scoring 9 goals helping them win the league and qualify for the ABSA Cup and the ZPL National League play offs.
He also scored two goals in the ABSA Cup, sending Makeni All Stars to the round of 16 where they lost to MTN Super League side Kabwe Warriors.
In the ZPL National League play off Phiri netted another important two goals as Makeni All Stars topped their group to qualify for the second tier of Zambian football.
Blades have also signed goalkeeper Justin Munyikwa on loan from Green Eagles and defender Prosper Chiluya from ZANACO on a one year loan deal.
Defensive midfielder Edward Tembo has also joined the Chililabombwe based outfit on a two year deal after leaving Kabwe Warriors on mutual separation.
The former City of Lusaka, Red Arrows and Buildcon player won three league titles at ZESCO United.
Tembo was part of the Zambia Under-20 squad which won the CAF U20 AFCON on home soil in 2017 and reached the FIFA U20 World Cup quarterfinals in Asia.
The fifth player who has joined Blades is Innocent Munamomba on a three year deal from Jumulo.
Blades started their season with a hard fought 0-0 draw against ZESCO United at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium with Benjamin Saeli impressing on his debut. Next up for Blades is a home fixture with FC MUZA.
