Kaumbi’s brilliance sends River Plate back to the summit of Division One Southern Province

A 1-0 win over Buchi FC in a week 3 rescheduled match played on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, was enough for River Plate Football Club to make a long jump on the log from number 5 to top of the table.

A second-half goal by Benson Tembo was all that the Christopher ‘Gazza’ Tembo-coached side needed to bag three points and move to the top with 35 points joint with Sinazongwe United but the Chikankata based team has a superior goal difference.

River Plate has managed to score 30 goals and allowed 10 from their 18 games played.

River Plate can’t be talked about without the mention of the brilliant performance by the newly acquired young goalkeeper Official Kaumbi who has guided his team to 7 straight games without conceding a goal since taking over as the first-choice goalkeeper at the club.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper is yet to concede a goal in River Plate colors as he has now kept 7 clean sheets from the 7 games he has played since joining them from Red Lions.

Official Kaumbi was also instrumental for red Lions’ run of winning promotion from Division Two to Division One South with some impressive performances as he picked the ball behind the net 4 times from the 18 league appearances he made and in a provincial cup tournament he conceded only one goal in 4 matches.
