Katete United preparation for Provincial Division One on course

Katete United who will be playing in FAZ third-tier league for the fifth consecutive season is gearing up well for the 2020/2021 Provincial Division One game.

Having finished in 4th position,6 points behind Petauke United who emerged champions last season, Katete has set ambitious targets of closing up last season’s points difference with the champions and qualify for FAZ/EDEN University National Division One.

They have added three players to their ranks, one being a goalkeeper and two midfielders. Kuzwayo Kalima an attacking midfielder has been acquired from comeo FC a Livingstone-based club, Vann Banda another attacking midfielder has also been brought to the fore from Sky Warriors of Mfuwe together with a goalkeeper Kaunda Mwewa and they are currently locked in negotiations with a former air-force striker from Lusaka.

To prepare the team for the task ahead, Katete United head coach Ezekiel Siamalambo has been arranging a series of friendlies with local provincial Division One clubs. On 17th October they walloped Sinda United 3-1 after which they played to a 1-1 draw with Institute Chipata on Independence day before going toe to toe with Zesco Chipata FC with a 1-1 result on 25th October and up next is a date with Petauke United.

Coach Siamalambo has placed discipline as a top priority with one player already waiting to appear before the disciplinary committee and has issued a stern warning to other players to focus on bringing positive results and not to indulge themselves in misconduct behavior as he won’t hesitate to summon them before the disciplinary committee.

Siamalambo believes the three friendlies the team has played have given him insight on how ready the team is. He went on to point out areas the team needs to improve on before the start of the new season with mental strength top on the list. The team has conceded late in 2 friendly matches after taking the lead.

“If we are to improve on last season’s point tally and play in FAZ/EDEN University national league then we need to sort this issue of failing to keep the lead and conceding late goals and it’s a pity that we are in such a situation few weeks before the start of the new calendar season but am happy that the friendlies we have played have exposed the problem on time, It is a problem me and my technical bench we need to work on with cautious approach and make sure we eliminate it before the start of the new season,” Coach Ezekiel Siamalambo told the ZamFoot Crew shortly after the Zesco Chipata game at Omelo Mumba ground in katete.

With the FAZ super league slated for kick off on 31st October, The ZamFoot Crew understands that lower leagues will kick off in early November.
